Just announced on Breakfast TV a very sad loss RIP

I know his family and they still live in Farnworth.

RIP Bally.

RIP Alan Ball

What a shame at 61 years old, RIP Alan Ball - England World cup legend.

Very sad.

Not as sad as the fact he had to sell his world cup winners medal to look after his family, probably his most prized possesion. And our wonderful FA did... FA when they could have paid for it and simply let him keep it.

Bolton boy too.

Agreed. Just a shame he never got a chance to don his home town colours.

If you're good enough you're tall enough!

RIP

Sad day. RIP.

He told the story at a Sportsmans Dinner that his Dad pawned the medal to buy the family a colour TV!

Don't know how true it was but, when we won the World Cup, the story came out that Bally jumped on the bus at Moses Gate to get down to Burnden for a trial. BWFC told him he would never make it in the game because he was too short. Blackpool took the chance and he became a World Cup winner at a very young age.

Sad loss. A true legend of English football who will always be remembered. Top bloke.

RIP Alan Ball

Being his cousin (although never saw him after my nan died) its a sad loss espcially for the family after his wife Lesley also died too young.

RIP
