Heard from a Director that we are quite a bit down on season ticket sales at this same point of the year.

 

The reason they have frozen ticket prices (rather than a reduction) is because they think that season ticket sales are down as fans will be picking and choosing their games. Therefore, for the big A and A+ games they have to maximize turnover.

An astute businessman like yourslef would also realise that once the "attractively-priced" season tickets have been sold and you've 16,000 or so guaranteed each week and the away team bring an average of 1,500 due to the continued high prices for away fans, you're looking at over 10,000 empty seats.

No, you're right Yossi, as the away fans are the hardcore who'll go whatever the price.....or so you'd think. Both Everton and Man City didn't fill their section last season at the Reebok as a protest to what they believed to be expensive ticket prices.

There were no sell-outs last season. Highest attendance was 27229 against Utd which is about 500 short of capacity.

 

Only just over 25000 on against Liverpool.

As someone who picks and chooses their games, I should perhaps hang on a bit until I know what the club is offering via the membership scheme. If the club manage to arse that up them they will have made it easier for me to miss more games next season, which is really sad when the number of games I've missed at the new stadium is still in single figures. However, since they've finally got shut of the admin charge I couldn't stop banging on about last season, it's just possible they might have come up with a satisfactory alternative to forking out for the whole season in one go.

I think the whole categorization malarky is a relic. Years ago when I first started going and we got in the old Div1, late 70s, home to liverpool was summat you looked forward to for weeks and which generated a massive buzz round town. Partially that was the novelty of actually playing them but it was also down to the fact that seeing them "live" was a rare event even on tv. So you had household names with almost no exposure for non Liverpool fans bar highlighst programmes such as MOTD. Now, half the team are unpronouncable nobodies who are in no way shape or form household names and who, should you want, you can see live on tv at least once a week. No great surprise that the novelty has worn off.

This problem then becomes enhanced when the higher category games also end up live on tv - they have to realise that whether or not a match is going to be live on satellite also therefore affects its categorization.

Me missing games isn't maximising anything. Sub-20K attendances, most of whom are on cut price ST's isn't maximising anything either. It's also arguably detracting from the experience for everyone as the place will be like a morgue.

If the ground is half-full, the club is missing out on revenue generated from mechandise, food, programme sales etc. Surely it makes more sense to have a full stadium by setting realistic ticket prices? And while they're at it, maybe they could introduce a local number for the ticket office, rather than the premium rate line they currently have!
