We get bigger crowds than we used to,which is a flaw in your question.

But unlike other clubs of our stature we have built a ground 6 miles out in the sticks with much worse access than the old ground.

When i say access i mean for Bolton fans who live in Bolton, not away fans or the small number that travel by motorway.

I just don't see this argument. If you live in Harwood, Bradshaw, Astley Bridge, Smithills, Heaton, Deane and some other local boroughs of Bolton its an extra 10 minutes in the car. For Farnworth, Kearsley South Bolton maybe an extra 20 mins. Some boroughs are actually closer to the Reebok Lostock, Westhoughton, Horwich etc Bordering suberbs where we have a fan base such as Chorley, Aspull (Dare I mention any other wigan areas :D ) are also closer. Add to this a bus network that takes you for little price straight to the Reebok from all over and outside Bolton, then I don't see how accessibility is a valid argument.

The only way your argument holds any water is if you look at the areas around the old Burnden such as Great and Darcy Lever where people might have walked to Burnden - But I am not having it that this would make a significant difference.

Fcuk the whole thing off, and watch games occasionally when there is nothing better to do, or - most have already done that

I agree, I did one year at the Reebok and binned it, come next Aug it will be 10 years since I went "regularly".

Been to prob 10 games in the last 9 years, 7 where in a box, 2 I paid for (both v Wolves xmas 98 I think) and a mates ST for 1 (wigan two years ago when Northy lost his teeth).

Once you miss your first the rest become easy.

You know there's a problem when AndyBWFC jacks it all in.

Does the buzz go out of it when we are safe and in upper mid table? Is Football in general no longer enticing?

I think that's one of the main reasons why crowds have dipped. Maybe people just think that we've gone as far as we're going to and it's all starting to get a bit routine. Games against the likes of Reading, Fulham, Derby, Middlesboro, etc, aren't much more enticing than games against the sort of teams we used to play in The Championship. We just need some fresh impetus from somewhere. If a billionaire came in, brought in Mourinho and started signing up every class player that became available, you can bet that the stadium would be full regardless of cost, location, kick-off times, etc. These things only become important if you need persuading to go in the first place.

Just 10000 home fans in 3 stands?

Where's that Hendrick fella gone again?

I assume you mean me

Went down to ticket office at lunch today and was told they couldn't sell tickets today. What the f**k???

Him:'It's to keep City fans out of our stands'

Me: 'And what about Bolton fans? Look, here's my season ticket...I'm a Bolton fan'

Him: ' sorry, mate. Police orders'

F**king pigs! Our support will be even worse than usual!

No beer being served at tonights game either..........a 15k attendance and the police have stopped tickets being sold on the day and ale being served now.........that'll really help our already dwindling support

It was communicated via the website a few days ago and also on here.

Didn't keep the c?ckends out like, but at least they tried.

I presume all the pricks in the boxes behind us have had their boxes taken off them for their terrible behaviour. Hmmm, maybe not.

I know plenty from this area that still go regularly. But there are others that don't.

The location was one thing. The fact you could literally have a pint in your local at 2.30pm. Finish it at 2.50pm and then decide, should I or shouldn't I go to the game? Hmmmm.

Now its an organised trip out and can be a pain in the butt. I drive to most games now, but that actually takes the fun out of the entire day as I'm unable to have a pint.

If we go down and we are on the verge of bankruptcy, then it will be the apathetic, moaning fans that will be the main cause.

I've never seen a fan score a goal or save one. If bwfc go down it will be entirely due to a squad of players earning on average ?20k per week ?1.04 million per year not cutting the mustard.

If the club go bankrupt it is probably down to the fact that some self interested board member(s) decided to build a stadium for ?15 million more than it should have cost, out of town and then tried to kid everyone that the club would get ?20 million back from selling the old ground for development! Oh and one of them even got the contract to build the thing and the hotel?

It will be 4 or so since I binned mine next year, and that was after our league cup final ticket fiasco. Went to about 5 home games next, three the following and two last year.

Simply going to the game does not have the same "can't miss" attraction it used to have on me between 1973 and 2003. The match day experience fell apart after the move (mates stopped going, having to drive there etc etc and after 6 years the brand new shiny stadium wore off)

Thing is I could now easily afford it but now I am 47 I'd rather do something else. I even struggled to watch the game on tele last week and I never watch any of the weekend TV games anymore.

Have you packed in too Andy????

The big question for all you guys is where are all the yoof who should be taking my place?

They're not welcome - see the moaning after the Rabotnicki game.

We're the only club who moan when we get no fans and moan when we do

Some really good stuff on here.

I know I am so disappointed with our support and it is a question that I have been mullinmg over for ages.

When we were in the 3rd and 4th divisions in the 80's and started to rise steadily in the early nineties I told people to watch out, we are a big club and our fan base is huge. I remember being really disappointed and surprsied that our new stadium would only be 25,000 (originally) think that would not be enough.

I was wrong.

Personally I am not massively bothered about having 18,000 at the last league game (but I am obviously not happy about it) but more disappointed that the atmosphere is ALWAYS crap. If we had 18,000 but an intimidating racous atmosphere then I would be happy. Poor quantity but good quality. At present both quantity and quality is dreadful. The Reebok just does not help develop an atmosphere.

Sell the Reebok. It must be worth a few quid as it is in prime land. Move back to the Town Centre and create the New Burnden. It can still have all of the hospitality/hotel etc... but will be designed with the support in mind. Traditonal square shaped and lower roofs. All singers located in a new section.

Atmosphere, location, pubs...this will bring the fans flocking back or at least will ensure the atmosphere would be fantastic.

(By the way, does anyone else remember the game v Villa at Burnden quoted earlier? I rememember the atmosphere that day was great and while we were used to taunts about the supermarket Villa took them to a new level. 'There's only one Kwik Save' and 'Youre going down with the prices' were 2 crackers along with the inevitable 'super - super market, super - super market'. Great terrace banter.)

Look on the bright side. If the club goes under coz not enough people in the Bolton area are interested, there's loads of moaning about having no football club in a town our size that everyone can get their teeth into.

thats always been one thing that baffles me, we've been at the reebok and surely by now it obvious that those who want to sing sit under the score board in the ESL.

as for moving into the town centre can you find a piece of and big enough to build a football stadium on?

we're stuck with the reebok surley if there's so many people who want an atmosphere it's not that hard to make one.

So what can we do. We all care about this?

What action can we take?

Last night on football factories there was a piece on Dynamo Zagreb. They get piss porr crowds but a section of around 1000 ultra lads sit together in the same section each game. They chant and sing and go mental all through the game. They are led by a big bloke who uses a megaphone to get chants started who doesnt watch the game but watches the fans. Anyone who doesnt join in is in trouble.

Anyone up for the megaphone job?

I agree Frank - but these are young kids which puts some people off. Where are the older lads, 20's and 30's etc.. who want a craic? Where should they go? I am 30's and like the craic but don't want to be next to some spotty scrote singing 'your mums your dad' every 5 minutes (thats another thing for another thread but the quality of our songs is not the best either.....wait till Munich away when it will be back to the usual good traditonal stuff).

I think the chap who used to start "Every We Go" is still available

Brilliant - forgot about him!!!!

Makes me laugh how the England Cricket Barmy Army think they invented that as a crowd song.

1.I could walk to most parts of Farnworth from Burnden Park in half an hour.It takes at least 45 minutes just to get off the Asda car park if 20,000 turn up,so i can't agree that it takes 20 minutes longer to get from Horwich to Farnworth than Burnden to Farnworth.

2.I don't like having to take the car.I can only ever remember going to Burnden in the car once, and that was for the novelty just after i had passed my driving test.Being stuck in a car an hour to get about 4 miles home makes the Reebok experience worse.Using public transport would mean getting the 575 into town and then another bus home, which is too much hassle for a home game.Burnden would be one bus ride. The trains just aren't worth considering.

3.The club buses aren't good enough for me to use. There is one per home game and i don't like being told what time i have to do things when i am not working. If they'd put on several buses on the same route each game i would consider using them.Sometimes i want to get at the ground for 1.00 pm to take in the atmosphere other times i just want to get there for 2.50 to watch the match.

I take your points for the areas you are talking about. But as I said should that make such a significant difference? There are still a lot of folk going from Farnworth and south Bolton plus there are are so many other boroughs of Bolton and neighbouring suburbs that are just as close, closer or an extra 5/10 min drive away. I have lived in Harwood, Bromley X and Heaton, there's not much difference in terms of travelling to Burnden or to the Reebok.

the spotty scrotes are like AS says the yoof and the next generation of wanderers so perhaps teaching them songs other than 'yer mums yer dad' and 'who are ya' might give better atmosphere.

if everyone who wanted to sing during the match tried to sit in that area rather than being scattered around the stadium amongst the thermos and travel rug brigade then i'm pretty sure the atmosphere would improve no end.

Just give it up.

The atmosphere will always be sh?t

The pubs will always be w?nk

The stewards will always be a bunch of muppets on a power trip

Getting there by train will always be unreliable & not worth the effort (unless you fancy queueing for an eternity).

You can't buy tickets in town and the ticket office at the ground is staffed by total unhelpful retards.

But lets ignore all that - PG is probably blaming us for the fans losing interest - the fat, pug faced, bomb planting, little f?cktard :good:

why will it?

Only if those who want to create an atmosphere are resigned to it being so.

I'm not one for singing i get too engrossed in the game and abusing opposition players and the officials, but i know if i wanted to sing and create a bit of atmosphere i'd sit ESL with the yoof and not rights

The scoreboard corner is the only place in the whole ground that makes any noise at all. I sometimes hear the North Stand try and get something going, but that's it.

10 years at the Reebok and it's still a library - like I said, give it up.

All teams at those new grounds struggle for atmosphere - Huddersfield, City & soon to be Everton. Just the way it is.
