C86 Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Thing is I could now easily afford it but now I am 47 I'd rather do something else. I even struggled to watch the game on tele last week and I never watch any of the weekend TV games anymore. I have more "disposable" income now than at any time in my life but like you say rather do something else. TBH I only come here for the banter and the odd p!ssed up rant Only time I watch football is the odd MOD on a Sunday morning or at the "Conny Club" with AndyBWFC I get offered mates ST quite offten but have only taken it up once, Wigan a couple of years ago.
seasoned Traveller Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 most of you on this link seem to think everyone should live within 2 minutes of the groundget in the real world, lots of fans travel from well outside bolton our support is a joke, yet they all come out of the woodwork for a carling cup final its time the club rewarded the proper fans, not the part timers Roy, Let me ask you this. If you had been supporting us for nigh on 20odd year and then stacked in your season ticket the year we got to the Carling Cup Final, would you feel a little aggreived you could'nt get a ticket, yet the season ticket holders for that year all got tickets.......who is the one who comes out of the woodwork. Is it JCL Premier League fans. or the fans who have been watching for years who have found football too expensive or sanitised. You cant win can you. I should be going week in , week out after watching some tripe in my years, but quite frankly I can't be arsed...Its too dear, no proper pubs, getting away from the place, shitty stewarding, all seater stadia, overpaid prima donnas, Gartsides utter bullshite (All Directors are the same). The idea of opening The Premier Suite was bloody fantastic, what aan atmosphere could be created in there, like The King Bill and Churchills of days gone by, but guess what, they knocked that idea back to, they would rather charge suits and have corporate meals and bollox to the bread and butter of the club....THE REAL FANS. Football is corporate now and you lot don't matter as long as you stump up for your season ticket and buy your replica shirt year in year out.
fester58 Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 ok, if we accept they need to look at the business maybe theres more cash to be made in divison 3 with 5 thou on and 18 pros on 500 quid a week i reckon its the only way forward just have to accept the fact the town of bolton can't support a prem team itll still be nearly 20 quid a seat though now your talkin casino,as long as they arramge some decent pre-season friendlies abroad,

At least your honest, your not really a bolton fan or a football fan are you, many new age fans got swept along with the new football era and would never of been a fan in the 70s 80s and early 90s without sky promoting it I think a lot of these fans are now dropping off.

I'd say I'm not a football fan any more, MickyD is right (along with my dad), I've grown up Watched Bolton from 73 until 98, missed two home games from 75 to 98. When I'm working away or like recently on holiday when asked who my team is I always say Bolton and if I get any sh!t I give it back, got to be polite I may make an appearance this season as my son is getting interested in football. I'm thinking though of taking him to different lower league grounds as I think he (and I) may enjoy it more than the Reebok. Then again the Reebok could be a lower league ground soon

Less hassle, decent football, better snack bars, social clubs for a beer. I do games like that as well as the Reebok. Keeps me sane.
fatolive Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Try non-league. Less hassle, decent football, better snack bars, social clubs for a beer.I do games like that as well as the Reebok. Keeps me sane. i agree, go to even a local club with a club house, get a pint watch a match and have a laugh with the added bonus of sky sports being on to keep up with how bolton are doing. used to go all the time (86-2005) then it was picking games, now cant be arsed at all reasons same as other posters , too expensive, i used to walk from home to burden, now it takes longer to get off car park than it does to fly to spain, stewards who b*llock you for shouting at the ref, fans of areas like the paddock spread all over ground, f*ckin fireworks and cheerleaders ground half empty at half time when a legend comes on so no applause, i could go on but you get the drift.
Smiffs Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 when we first moved to the Reebok we had a coach from the Seven Stars in Harwood full for every home game...out of that coach of 50 people only 2 now still go as season ticket holders. Now these people were not "JCL or plastic fans" these were our hardcore fans of varying ages who had followed us for years...and they are the ones who are stopping going... Yip Between 15 and 20 of us from Leigh used to leave the Elly, and later on the Moonraker every week. With the Bolton and Fylde lads we drank with, we had a block of about 30 seats together, now there are 2. On many occassions I've run a nigh on full coach to away games, most of whom were 'out of towners'. Average age was mid 30's. Lads from the 70's and 80's. Nowadays, there are 4 or 5 going in dribs and drabs.

Guest as Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Oh well. So if you speak to them they won't listen, yet they'll continue to worry about attendances. Well as we lose more and more fans they've themselves to blame. If Gartside really gave a f?ck - he'd do something about what the fans want. But as ST says - he's another football director and only cares about the ??? in his pockets. Makes you wonder why you bother anymore.........
Mounts Kipper Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I am convinced that the main reason for many fans stopping going is the lack of a meeting place that is open before and after the match, if the club would have designated a supporters bar this would have helped as would transport leaving 2 hours after the match, at the moment 1 hour after the match the reebok area is like the marie celeste, when with a bit of effort the place could be jumping, there was nothing better than going into the pubs outside Burnden and having a good old sing song.
Proper White Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 very sad for me as a fan to hear the lifeblood of our club are now probably lost forever, I remember the bus from the seven stars did not realise it had stopped, when I look back over the 10 years of the Reebok there are many many faces I have not seen for some time, last season at Blackburn away many of these faces were there, for me that day was special sat in the pubs of Darwen chatting to lads you had not spoken to or seen for some time, It was far and away the best time I have had at a Bolton game for years. Correct. I saw a lot of old faces at Guimaraes. A decent traditional football experience. Banter, pubs, beer, singing and pride at being a Bolton fan. The Reebok 'experience' provides none of that. I know a few people who work in football clubs and believe me they read websites like this a lot. Many o fthem will be reading this thread which on the whole is extremely valuable information with some good ideas. Hoepfully someone is reading and they do something to turn the tide. Their focus has been on winning new fans, families and kids etc... but in that time they have lost the hardcore as they have not listened or cared about what they want. ?15 behind the goal with ?200 season tickets would be a great start - maybe even have it as unreserved so you have to get their early for the best seat which then gets the singing going early. Remember those days when during the players warm up each player would ghet a chant - now there is no-one in the ground until 2.55. Half times are also a nightmare. The ground is half empty with 5 minutes to go before half time and 5 minutes after. Lets just hope and pray that terraces come back soon.
YATESY Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 The posts on here are a real insight and a worry. If PG and his crew want to know what is causing the disappearing numbers they should be sent this thread. Most sensible and long serving members on WW are in their 30's or 40's and at our age it quite simply boils down to having more things on our plate - most often family. We have grown up now and have far more pressure on our leisure time and disposal income then we had when we all watched Bolton week in and week out at Burnden. This cycle constantly happens though. What PG needs to worry about is why the next generation - those in their late teens and early 20's aren't repeating the cycle as they are dropping off AND why the 50 year olds are not returning to watch Bolton when their kids have flown the nest and they have more free time and cash again.
Mounts Kipper Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 and a rice and easy chip shop would also help.

Their focus has been on winning new fans, families and kids etc... but in that time they have lost the hardcore as they have not listened or cared about what they want. I don't think they care at all, we could carry this thread on for months and nothing would happen - anything that involves them actually getting off their arse and initiating something isn't on the cards. Fans met the club & they didn't listen...............so what's the point? They'll soon listen when the only people going to the match or serious die-hards & the odd day tripper who bobs in while his missus is shopping on Middlebrook. Someone mentioned Gartside being interested in what the fans want - if that's the case, then he should try and do something before we're in the Blackburn & Wigan clique of no fans & no noise. Unlike most of you, I don't have kids to feed or anything like that. But my simple reason for buying a ticket for Braga and not going (watched it in the pub) is that it's more of a chore than something I enjoy. I could have gone to the city game, but really couldn't be bothered - I hate that place and everything about it. The pubs are sh?t, getting a train back to Bolton is an hour wait sometimes and you get the feeling the club only care about the women & kids buying their f?cking cinema hot-dogs. I hope I f?ck it off completely soon - waste of time, waste of money & it's such a sh?t day out going to the Reebok now. "and a rice and easy chip shop would also help." with you on that one, MK
Guest Muzzle Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I think the problem is, this season especially, has seen alot of the older fans who followed the whites in the 70's 80's and 90's not renewing season tickets, and to label us as JCL's (which some on here do) is a particular insult, as without us in the 80's especially, the club would have gone. The club have got to understand why our group have stopped going, because they are now losing the hardcore of fans. As for the comment about if we had got to the Carling Cup final this year, how would I have felt about going as I was not a season ticket holder? The answer is, when we got to the final against middlesborough, I missed out on a ticket because season ticket holders (which i was obviously one) were turning up with a bunch load of ST and were getting two tickets each (for people who couldn't be arsed to queue themselves, OR didn't go to many matches)....so I would say tough, as justice has prevailed. My issue with tickets has always been, you can only get tickets for quarters, semi's or final, if you have actually been to earlier rounds. This would mean ST holders who paid extra get a ticket, and fans who aren't ST holders, but have been to either all or some previous rounds. I never understood why lifeline members (some who do not go matches) and ST holders who didn't go to previous rounds come before fans who attended the previous round of matches. Rant over

wayne cramp Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 ITS ALL TRUE , I,M AFRAID I AM ONE OF THOSE - THIS IS THE FIRST SEASON SINCE 1986 THAT I HAVENT HAD A SEASON TICKET - I,VE STILL BEEN TO 3 GAMES AND WILL BE IN MUNICH NEXT WEEK, I DONT THINK ITS THAT I,VE LOST INTEREST , ITS MORE LIKE I JUST HAVENT GOT THE SAME PASSION ANYMORE TO GO, CHRIST I USED TO GET UP ON A SATURDAY MORNING AND BE BUZZING FOR IT - YES EVEN WHILE WE HAVE BEEN AT THE REEBOK (WE STILL HAD A FAIR FEW MEET UP IN TOWN AND HAVE THE LADS BANTER ETC) BUT THATS NOW GONE. WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING IS SORTING OUT 2 OR 3 AWAY GAMES A SEASON WHERE WE GET THE '50 FROM SEVEN STARS' AND THE '30 FROM LEYTH' ETC ETC ALL GOING , (EVERYBODY HAS GONE ON ABOUT HOW GOOD BLACKBURN AWAY WAS AND ALSO DERBY ABOUT 3 SEASONS AGO' ALL OF THESE 'OLD FACES' WERE IN ATTENDANCE. IT ONLY TAKES WORD OF MOUTH IN YER BOOZER TO GET THESE SORTED. JUST A THOUGHT LIKE
no balls Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Spoke to someone from BWFC in Skopje. They know this website very well indeed. Trouble for the folk at BWFC reading this is, it's a full time job filtering all the utter codswallop from the decent ideas/views.

I remember going to Fulham with Ani when JJ and Mendy came, we had a cracking day, met up with loads, all topped off by getting thrown out of The Springbok...no hassle (Only cos QPR got frightened by our numbers) JOKE!!!!......and I had a beltin day, even though we got trashed. The Day we went to West Brom and got jumped........Still a good day out, but there were about 15 off us. I would go back, but they have to get a few things right 1st........Lower the cost.....Have an open area for lads to balloon for 90mins without the worry of getting thrown out.......it a stress reliever...........GET THAT PREMIER CLUB OPEN AND FCUK OFF THE SUITS AND CORPORATES..............and last of all....GET THE DIRTY BURGER VANS BACK OUTSIDE THE GROUND
trotter58 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I think that the most important point that has been made on this thread is the need to simplify the whole process of attending games. If you hadn't been for a while and you felt like attending the next home game with a few mates, you would have to go online to find out the ticket office number, what category of game it was and when the tickets went on general sale. Assuming you could be arsed to do that, you would then have to ring round all your mates and ask them to commit to going to the game in advance so that you could book all the seats together. You would then have to pay for the whole lot on your credit card (assuming you have one) and then get each individual person you've booked for to pay you back. When you arrive at the ground, you then have to queue up for your tickets before queueing up all over again to hand the tickets to a turnstile operator! Is it any wonder people can't be bothered? But yet the solution is blatantly obvious. If you have a few cash turnstiles, it removes all these barriers to attending for people who don't go regularly. Other teams in the Premier League do it, so why can't BWFC?
Sumo Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Don't lose this thread some great ideas coming out - we should nominate 4 or 5 away games per season & have Wanderers Ways piss ups, meet up in designated boozers before & after the game knowing there will be a few hundred others with you will make it much more appealing to move my lazy arse from Bournemouth to whereever the game was. I'm fairly new to this forum so maybe you do tyhis already ? if not,one of you nutters with about 6,000,000 posts to your name with nothing else better to do should take respnsibility for organising. First game I propose is BAYERN MUNICH away - I recon we could raise about 4000 or so for that one ! haha
