I felt sorry for the bloke, the country expects, he's missing his best players and has to shoehorn big name players into a team for political reasons. His back 4 is drawn from 2nd tier Premiership teams and Chelsea reserves and there isn't a single decent English keeper. It's not his fault that the country isn't producing technically excellent player or that the game was played on a swamp.

I've been thinknig about this today. If I ruled the world and run the FA, I would put clauses in any manager's contract so for instance, if we didn't qualify (which we all know has just happened) then he gets sacked, no pay off, no nothing!

They won't have learnt from the SGE saga though will they.

A squad with bent, defoe, carson (or any other keeper than that bloke from neighbours) and beckham (played well of late but past his best) doestnt gain the accreditation of a 'guaranteed' entry to the finals. We should have qualified well before tonight's game. McClaren had a full-strength squad for most of the games and yet we only managed to draw with Macedonia and Israel and Croatia beat us twice!

At one time this failure would have really pissed me off, not now. The McClaren factor had really dampened my enthusiasm for the national team. This ultimate failure has come as no surprise to me with that clown in charge. Face it, the England team have been over-rated for years - they are useless!!

 

They were out-played last night in all areas! Everyone forgets that the Croats already beat England this year - its the likes of the Macedonia game they should be looking at as the reason for going out.

 

The players maybe good but they can't gell (Chelsea under Vialli springs to mind). They need to get someone in who has the balls to drop crap performers eg. Lampard and Gerrard who think they are dead-certs to play every game!

 

The only manager I think who has the ability to create an above average team for the national side is some one like Mourinho!

I have to say watching SSN last night many of the comments coming in & from fans being interviewed they were slating the players just as much.

I said it on another thread and I'll say it again. Dave played his heart out as much as he could last night and was the first man out of the dressing room to face the press. Fair play to him. We all know Gerrard is a wimp from what we read about his personal life, but his comments & performance last night were a disgrace. Strip the man of the captaincy. Will he care? As he said last night 'life goes on' so maybe he won't care.
