True? Or is this just another addition to the media speculation designed to get the rest of the world involved?

If theres any truth in all the rumours theres going to be a hell of a bidding war come January. If Chelsea, United, City & Arsenal are involved a penny less than ?15m would be a discrace, ?15m + a half decent youngster coming the other way or another ?2m if the buyers win the league would be fair

and also signing Guthrie on a permanent basis.

?15 mil, less the 25% sell on which will probably be tagged on to his contract, half up front, half in installments. ?4 mill being plied straight into the debt leaves us with a princely sum of ?1.5 mil for a world class striker to reinvest in the team in Jan...............Well worth it !

If we recieve ?15m for Anelka, we must focus on spending wisely on a proven goalscorer - not an up and coming player. We need someone to keep us in the league.

Seems to me theres more of a "Trotter frenzy" than "Media Frenzy" when Anelka is concerned. Still dont think he will be leaving club. Maybe naive of me, bur he's not exactly battering down the door to leave. Leave the fookin press and agents to their witterings and lets look forward to stuffing Brum for Christmas (did you like that - stuffin Brum bit; seasonal)

To be fair, you are just making a lot of unfounded assumptions there aren't you

I think Pre-Elk we had a better, more creative squad behind a front man. The likes of Okocha and Djorkjaeff but now we haven't got that flair player so I value Anelka as a reliable source more than ever.

If only it worked like that, we will still only get the maximum that either of those clubs bid, and until that time we won't know what that amount is, it might be ?15M, but it could also be no more than ?12M

This was always the case, good business really, 2 quality seasons, loads of profit.

I agree regarding the flair players and that will have helped, but I don't think that we would struggle as much as folk make out - we still have Nolan, Diouf, Davies Guthrie who would probably weigh in if the responsibility wasn't so heavily on Anelka's shoulders.

 

I know it's different in terms of overall quality of the 2 teams, but look at Arsenal post Thierry Henry; he was a similar talisman in terms of the amount they relied on him for goals...it's as much of the psychological effect as anything.

 

However, I would like to see a "replacement" for Anelka and a flair based midfielder for Xmas (as well as the much needed centre half); not too much to ask of the Bolton board who are so well known to be promiscuous with their money if we get ?15m is it?

Agree, if we get a decent backbone in January we will be sure to move up the league. Also take your point on Henry, didn't look at it that way

realistically we'd get a lower league striker or an outcast from somewhere else, neither could turn out to be a bad thing, but people shouldn't expect a similar sort of player coming in to replace him as they're simply not available to a team like ourselves in january

I agree with jules on this, we will go back to front 3 with davies nolan weighing in with more goals, remember we qualified for europe first time with okocha as a bit part player, djorkaeff had left by then, it was the system more than the quality of player we had that got us into Europe in the first place, also I think the constant specualation surrounding Anelka, does not help team spirit one bit.

The worry is more about Diouf. If he comes back sulking from the ANC in the same fashion he did two years, we could be without him and Anelka for the second half of the season.

BUT on the otherhand, if he comes back in a good frame of mind, and we fail to sign a replacement for Anelka I would move Davies back central and play someone like Stelios, Vaz Te etc as the extra wide player.

 

For me January is all about signing defenders. We have enough going forward to score the 1 or 2 goals a game to collect 3 points, what we don't have is defenders capable of keeping a clean sheet.

 

 

Finally - can we stop talking about Guthrie. He ain't going to sign in January, Liverpool won't sell him in January and Bolton will save the money as we have him on loan until the summer anyway.
