worst experience is the lack of respect the club has shown to the fans who travelled all over to not take it serious

indeed :good:

and Gartside was quick enough to come out and milk applause in Belgrade etc, where was he and the team after Lisbon? A final gesture of chucking Euro shirts in for kids to pick up etc would have been appreciated. Standing there waiting to get let out was quite possibly the last few minutes of European football Bolton fans will ever experience - the club might have wanted to have been involved as well.

Best ground?

Ground itself Munich, atmophere-wise Besiktas

Worst ground?

Belgrade - like Leicester but without the charm

Best people?

Most were great; I suppose the biggest "surprise" in terms of how we were treated was from the Turks. Macedonians - apart from the beggars - were memorably friendly too.

Worst people?

the inbred half-wits who call themselves the "Lauta Hools". Didn't see many of them at the home leg. Oh and the robbing ćunts who ran the Belgrade holding hotel. Oh and the Marseille residents who are happy to let their city be the dogshit capital of the world.

Best ale?

Efes

Worst ale?

Hotel Nacional's overpriced shite in Belgrade

Best experience?

Loads, but watching so many old faces stroll down Sunny Beach before Plovidiv is probably top.

Worst experience?

Apart from aforementioned club response, it would probably be the lightning off the port bow on the descent into Skopje. Mind you, the chants of ".... in the Skopje air disaster" from the back of the plane did raise a titter

Best ground?- Munich

Worst ground?- Belgrade for the fact we were in there about 4 hours freezing our bollocks off.

Best people?- The 1860 Munchen fans we spent a night getting pissed with. The portugese were reet and the Macedonian people were pretty friendly also.

Worst people?- Madrid police and the nob head Bolton fans who kicked off with each other.

Best ale?

I think my username tells you this one. The German beer was also top notch.

Worst ale?

Without doubt the Serbian beer- crap and overpriced.

Best experience?- The 1st game in Bulgaria was a proud moment as a Bolton fan. Kevin Davies equalising in Munich and the general pissed up madness that took place on every trip.

Worst experience?- Being robbed by a Macedonian taxi driver was grim. Without doubt though my worst experience is the way we got knocked out, years of work to throw it all away.

Here's hoping one day we'll have more euro trips. :drinks:

Only done 4, Guimaraes, Munich, Madrid and Lisbon

Best ground?

Allianz Arena, great atmosphere, nice stadium, stunning from the outside had it all.

Worst ground?

Vicente calderon, i thought i was having an acid flashback to the early 80's or summat :::::lol::::: Not that i was born then

Best people?

Not really had many waynkerrs. Portuguese are accommodating in both guimaraes and lisbon, had a good chat with some bloke in that market thing near the alvalade about sporting, his 2 sons where in the academy, i said "are they the next cristiano ronaldo?" and the lads said "better" :::::lol::::: Also worthy of a mention are ze germans, good craic had in munchen.

Worst people?

Spanish Pigs. No problem with the spanish people, no bother with atletico or real fans and numerous drunken chats with both

Best ale?

Superbock. Close second Augustiner, not a whiff of a hangover, nice! 3rd would be the pocket rockets that were them little cans of mahou 5 star!

Worst ale?

As someone said before the alcohol free shit i bought in guimaraes. Not made the same mistake again thank christ! San miguel in spain, absolute toss.

Best experience?

Realising that we were 1-0 up at munich, oh when the whites in the augustiner beer hall. Vaz te's equaliser and guimaraes square

Worst experience?

Dodgin seats and batons in madrid and the utter carnage of full time and the lock in. Doin the TMG to guimaraes, my mate throwing up on me on the flight home and having to travel back to salford covered in sick!

Bring on the next one!

Best ground? Allianz Arena by a mile. But I was suprised how basic it seemed under the stands.

Worst ground? Marseilles Velodrome - shitehole. But I've been unimpressed with all the 'big' grounds, basically dumps.

Best people? Thought all of them were very good. The Germans were very tolerant considering so I would say them.

Worst people? ASCAB

Best ale? Cheep as chips Macedonian liquor weren't bad

Worst ale? Pardon.

Best experience? Dancing Lady Bars <_< . The entire Macedonian trip, even the coach ride from Sofia to Skopje and back, was probably the best craic Ive ever had watching the Wanderers. 3 capital citys visited in one day too - can't see myself doing that again.

Worst experience? Dancing Lady Bars, flight cancellations and Bulgarian pizza.

Posted

now I didn't do them all, but from the ones I did...

Best ground? Allianz arena

Worst ground? marseilles

Best people? guimares (apart from them putting up the price of the superbok on the second day)

Worst people? TMG.. no, probably the Madrid police

Best ale? the wine in marseilles or the beer in germany

Worst ale? the beer in germany that made a re-appearance on the plane

Best experience? The first match in Plovdiv, with the flares. really felt like europe.

Worst experience? Marsielles after the match. The police not letting us use the Ladies, the long coach ride, and the french airport staff

Posted

Didn't do 'em all either, but here goes -

Best ground - Allianz arena, Bernabau Stadium

Worst ground - Vinny Calderon

Best people - The Germans, and Guimaraes folk

Worst people - Spaniards by a country mile

Best ale - Superbock

Worst ale - Thinking how lucky i was when there was no queue at guimaraes ground - getting a coupla pints of no alcohol sheite, without realising it was no alcohol sheite

Best experience - The square in Guimaraes on match day, the flags and the singing brought a lump to my throat.

Worst experience - Madrid riot squad, flight delays, being held in the ground after the Madrid game, seeing Bolton fans causing each other nasty injuries in Madrid on the Wednesday night.

What are peoples European tour memories of the-

Best ground? Was in Dubai when we played Munich, so will say Calderon, (just for the atmosphere when whistle went)

Worst ground? Marseille, agree it was a shitehole

Best people? Madrid fans for me, had a laugh with em

Worst people? Spanish baton happy bummer boys

Best ale? San miguel in Madrid

Worst ale? dishwater in Marseille

Best experience? final whistle in Madrid

Worst experience? travelling back from Marseille by car, before the engine blew up 25 miles from Calais on a pitch black motorway.

My memoirs, before I got old and senile:

Lokomotiv Plovdiv

Good: The night before the game, Corner Bar especially. Hiring a coach for about 3p. McFly. The Communist tower block setting - proper Europe. The goals. Getting home. Being in the same 1* hotel as the club's VIP travellers, getting every benefit they did for about a third of the price.

Bad: The winding road from Varna airport to Sunny Beach was horrible, as was Sunny Beach, as indeed was Bulgaria, never going back there! The woman stood on the kiosk translating which just involved her using hand-signals. Shitting it for most of the game. The 70's throwbacks that were the Lauta Hools. The club selling us ?1 tickets at ?14.

Besiktas

Good: returning to a city I'd worked in years ago to see how much it'd changed. Booking a flight for ?133, kebabs, Efes, best atmosphere you will ever experience, The Borg's goal, anti-stab scarves.

Bad: taxi ride down the hard shoulder of the "motorway", Efes induced hangover, beach balls covered in sick. The club's nonsense advise about not getting into the country without a ticket.

Vitoria Guimaraes

Good: Everything about the trip, discovering Super Bock, visiting such a beautiful place, the good people of Portugal, the square, Vaz's goal, purchasing the best UEFA Cup scarf of the lot, ordering a full meal when a load of half-wits in the bar had been living off crisps all day.

Bad: Porto is the most boring place ever, Rangers fans are scum.

Olympique Marseille

Good: the countryside from Nimes to Marseille. Arriving early door and sitting outside L'Om bar in the afternoon whilst it was winter in Bolton, getting pissed the night before the game, the square, the fountain, all the locals coming looking WTF. The locals generally being quite friendly. Great atmosphere at the game.

Bad: Entering Marseille, what a slum. Bruno N'Gotty's "pass", a few people getting a shoeing, the temperature at night. The half-wits who shelled out ?650 for a trip to France- WTF?

Rabotnicki

Good: The coach journey, the main square, the Macedonian people, scraping a result, the few hours in Prague on the way back.

Bad: Ending up in Bulgaria again, never going back. The 6 hour coach journey. The trip throught the Albanian part of Skopje, anyone need a bucket? The endless stream of beggers. Three early starts and 4 timezones in one day really took their toll. Hanging on when it should have been an easy game. Lads earning less than me making total mugs of our "superstars". Being forced to walk back to the centre on the side of the river we'd been advised to avoid, in the dark. This was the biggest window of opportunity for something to go horrible wrong, someone at BWFC didn't do their job properly.

Bayern Munich

Good: Seeing so many pissed people the night before the game, sausages, beer, the stadium, a performance to be proud of forever of and never forgotten.

Bad: Being sick on Marienplatz. The "landing" in Basle on the way back.

Red Star Belgrade

Good: The amount of people who made the trip, Sports Bar, doing "The Bouncy", the snowballs, the amount of Police removed most of the danger on the day of the game, winning what was a must win game. Garty showing his appreciation for a change.

Bad: JAT Airlines, our "hotel", being forced to go where the Police wanted us to, the pollution, lads being stabbed the night before.

Atletico Madrid

Good: Most celebrated 0-0 in the club's history.

Bad: The atmosphere around the place at night, the whores, pickpockets, worst Police force in Europe - Spain is essentially still a Police state.

Sporting Club de Portugal

Good: Docas the day before, drinking in the sun. Rossio on matchday, Super Bock flowing, amazing stadium, great atmosphere created by our fans and it being recognised, cheapest trip of the lot I think.

Bad: endless stream of chan dealers, piss poor performance, Megson disappearing straight down the tunnel at the end, Stelios was clearly distraught at the end.

Some excellent memoris Carlos, and the above point is a good one that kind of passed everyone by but in fact, as you say, could have been nasty.

I'm still collating my thoughts!

But the walk back to Skopje Square was OK, I just went back the way I had come. I took one look at the route I'd been advised to follow and a small group of us turned back the way we came.

What are peoples European tour memories of the-

Best ground? Has to be Munich

Worst ground? Marseille or Atletico - how the fcuk they both hold a UEFA 5 star rating is beyond me. Marseille wins it though as at least we had a piece of plastic to sit on / stand on in Spain.

Best people? of all the trips we went on, we mixed most with the German's in Munich. Good for a chat and share a beer with

Worst people? I use the word 'people' very loosely by nomiating the Spanish police

Best ale? Being a bitter drinker and working for a German owned firm - this is a no brainer. Has to be Dunkel

Worst ale? Being forced to drink the gas filled pop known as lager has been a struggle on most UEFA trips. Marseille was saved by Desparado, Portugal by Superboc but there was no savour to be found in Madrid

Best experience? The square in Guimaraes, the late Vaz Te equaliser there, the 2-2 draw in Munich, the best 0-0 draw ever in Madrid, seeing so many faces from the past on every trip

Worst experience? missing the early morning flight home from Munich and spending the next 12 hours zig zagging across Europe to get home. Plus being charged at by police horse in the queue at Atletico
