vinnybwfc Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Would the championship be such a bad thing? The premier league is currently full of sides that are shit scared of losing instead of wanting to win. The football played by most teams is dire. If we went down how many of our players would be wanted by Premier League teams, Nolan, Cahill and not much else. After today I now feel we are definitely going down, but am not over disappointed. We have had a good go in the Premier League bu this year our luck has run out. We have a chairman who can only kindly be described as a knob and a manager who cannot see that you need to attack to win games. We also have a squad of overpaid ordinary players who, apart from a couple, should be made to pay for the travel of the fans to the next away game as an apology. As for the UEFA and FA Cups, if we had won would that not have given the team confidence. WELL SAID SIR !!
Rembrandt Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 ?Would the championship be such a bad thing?? Mr Softee. ?I'm undecided on whether we would be better off in the Prem or the Championship.? Knot Lane I can see where you?re both coming from, and I?m as disillusioned about the Prem as you are, but ..... what would the club be playing for in the Championship if not promotion to the Prem ? What would be the ambition ?

What would be the ambition ? I honestly think it could galvanise the club again - a play-off final or even a clear outright promotion, via away games at loads of grounds unvisited for years (if ever) could do wonders. All subsidised by the parachute payments. Relegation could be the best thing that ever happened to us. BUT It could also be the worst. Fact is that if you dont get back up within the few years of parachute payments then you risk stagnation and worse. eg Look at the lower regions of the Championship: 18 Norwich 39 7 6 6 19 19 5 4 11 16 29 -13 46 19 Southampton 39 7 4 8 21 24 4 8 8 28 42 -17 45 20 Leicester 39 6 6 7 20 13 4 8 8 18 23 2 44 21 Coventry 38 7 7 6 20 22 5 1 12 19 30 -13 44 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22 Sheff Wed 37 8 1 9 20 19 4 6 9 18 24 -5 43 So one of Norwich, Soton, Leics, Coventry or Sheff Wed seem doomed to the 3rd tier of English football next year. All at the very least as big a clubs as us - in fact when you consider catchment area etc you could argue all have more potential (and in the case of Sheff Wed at least noone would deny this). So this could be us in a few years. I argued against the Lisbon decision, but not because I doubted that Prem survival was the most important, but because I didnt believe the idea that Euro effort would necessarily screw up league effort a few days later. I honestly think that had we put out our best team on thursday then this would have translated into a better effort today.
Casino Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 spurs lost to a shite city team, and everton lost at fulham who knows if their uefa games had a bearing on todays fixtures i'm still of the opinion our survival battle had nowt to gain playing 'the first team' on thursday fact is, when davies misses from 2 yards out, it aint good enough, handball or not
globaldiver Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Which is why you called it soccer! Stand in the corner and think about what you've just said! Went fishin & landed a nice beauty! eeeee
Arnold Jackson Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 when davies misses from 2 yards out, it aint good enough, handball or not This seems to have been a very common theme since the transfer window shut and especially since recruiting Taylor; I didn't think we could find a player capable of missing easier chances than Davies, AOB and Nolan. We could put together a really 'funny' Christmas video of bloopers with the chances that have gone begging. Lets face it we'd have an hour of material from the last 10 games! Instead of talking about us being too good to go down, I'd be happier to hear the players admit that they are aware of this vital flaw and that they were working round the clock to improve their technique... cos that is the ONLY way we will get any points. Keep saying we have too much class to go down is making them look silly. But not as silly as the 'open goal' efforts that are being squandered in their half dozen each game!
Rembrandt Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 "I honestly think it could galvanise the club again - a play-off final or even a clear outright promotion, via away games at loads of grounds unvisited for years (if ever) could do wonders. All subsidised by the parachute payments." Yeah, Satan. but if fans are disillusioned with the Prem, what's the point trying to get back up anyway ? And, given the current shambles, the second scenario (fighting another relegation) seems more likely.
Pablo Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Cheer up. It could be worse.....you could be in our position! We lost, its a disgrace.....Moyes out!
fatshaft Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Eleven men back for a corner against 10 men shows just how clueless Megson is! His negativity has spread throughout the club but really I must conclude that Anelka is just a selfish individual who if he had any loyalty should have stayed until the end of the season.Megson has sold us down the river in every competition showing absolutely no ambition or fight whatsoever! Players earning ?20000+ should be able to play twice a week it may help them to get to know each other cos today they were devoid of any attacking ideas--a total disgrace & insult to all the fans! All of that is spot on, but your first dsentence especially.

His negativity has spread throughout the club but really I must conclude that Anelka is just a selfish individual who if he had any loyalty should have stayed until the end of the season. Megson has sold us down the river in every competition showing absolutely no ambition or fight whatsoever! Players earning ?20000+ should be able to play twice a week it may help them to get to know each other cos today they were devoid of any attacking ideas--a total disgrace & insult to all the fans! All of that is spot on, but your first dsentence especially. and for their goal, we had 10 outfield players marking 6 piemen. Then low and behold, Emile "If you touch me i'll fall over even though I'm 6ft 3 and 17 stone" Heskey scores his first goal in 19 games!
