We've Had A Bid For Diouf

Story

Edit: . . . just seen an interview with Meggo on Sky Sports News and he says we had no bid for him [ last night after the game ] and he was injured, so apologies if this is total rubbish from the TBN! ... wouldn't surprise me they never normally get a scoop... I think maybe the lazy journo has misunderstood the part where Gary was saying we have had a bid in for a player for a while and won't be upping it!

I don't wish him luck. He came out with all this bollocks about loving the club and the fans but needing to move for a better club, and then he moves to a relegation rival. Class player, but just another money grabbing tosser.

Sky are saying ?5mil btw, snap their hands off for that.

think he was hoping for a Villa/spuds type club to come in for him, a move to sunderland is a sideways move for him IMO

Diouf is one of our best players. Megson is not of big enough stature to retain and handle players of Dioufs calibre. bad loss for us, great addition by Sunderland.

allardyce couldn't handle him, either

dioufs got it all, but he plays for himself

Moving to Sunderland is madness for the bloke, it's in no way a step forward. I can't think of one good reason for him to go there.

Yeah - that's it!

Big Sam couldn't work out what to do with him after comign back from the ANC the other year. The backroom boys said he was fit, Diouf refused to play. That was real text book handling by BSA!!!

This has nothing to do with Megson but an awful lot to do with Dioufy

If we get anywhere near that, we've got the deal of the year, seeing as he could go for nowt in a year. Wonder if Roy Keane is interested in some magic beans? I have some available for ?300k.

Incidentally, doesn't World Cup qualification start again soon? Diouf will be clocking up his air miles for a quarter of the season.

Money?

Anyone actually got a price I keep hearing ?2.5mil, but the occasional ?5mil crops up!

BBC quote ?2.5M, and Skysports quote ?5M - it's probably somewhere between the two.

If he does go, then we need a decent replacement, and not just a "squad filler" to be brought in,

Diouf has been a good player for us, but he does tend to "go missing" for far too many games. I wonder how he'll get on with Keabe, if indeed he does go to Sunderland?

When did they buy Keabe?

Ship out all the Africans and don't get anymore. They only play part time. The ANC every 2 ragging years and add in WC qualifiers etc.

Have to agree.

Only bid on the table and the pride of Diouf has left him backed into a corner after his comments and actions at the end of last season - so he has to leave Bolton.

He expected big European clubs to be rushing to sign him - this move to Sunderland will be very humbling for him.

Unless in the next few days we get a quote something like "I really love this club and the fans, and have now decided to stay, I'm looking at signing a new contract" - which means he'll run down his contract, and leave for nothing next year, or for ?1M in January.

??????????????

It was Fadiga's and his own (alledgedly).

As for the replacement, thats gonna be Harper. Done deal by the end of the week ITK FACT ;)

What happened to Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Marseille? Every close season, Diouf's agent tells the world that those clubs are interested, Diouf then gets quoted as saying he's 'flattered' and no doubt the manager of the day has to go and do some ego boosting to get him to kick a ball for the club.

Would said man be telling porkies on the off chance someone comes in with an offer? Tut tut.

I'm reluctant to post on the other thread about Diouf cos it's a bit embarrassing, so apologies for me resurrecting my own thread and splitting/spitting things somewhat to post some honest thoughts.

I'm sad to lose Diouf. Putting aside all his problems the man is a class, entertaining footballer! He is the best crosser of a ball in the team by a country mile... much more accurate than Taylor for example. He's also our best bet fro breaking stubbor defences down... do we have anyone else?

We pay 11 million for a 29 year old who we don't know is good enough for the Premier League yet... I hope he is but I SEVERELY doubt he will be a better footballer than El Hadj Diouf! ... and then we sell a 27 year old forward for 2.5 million!

I usually say I don't care about the money as it's not mine and I'm usually told not to expect really class players for 4.5 million when commenting on Taylor etc etc...

I know I'm pessimistic, it's in my nature. I love watching/supporting Bolton Wanderers. Last season was not great but before a ball was kicked I was really excited at the prospect of seeing the new players play with Anelka and Diouf. This season I'm dreading our attacking play with Davies and Taylor to be honest!

Somebody say something to excite me ;o)
