In 2002, Smolarek was suspended by the UEFA for two European matches after he was tested positive on cannabis.[4] However, the amount found his urine was very low, ruling out the possibility that he had smoked it.[4] It was said he might had been eating a space cake or something similar, maybe without even knowing.[4] However, after the incident, Smolarek inherited the nickname, "The Hash Bomber"[5] and, as a result, missed Feyenoord's UEFA Cup final match versus Borussia Dortmund, won by the Dutch 3-2.[4]

On August 24, 2007, Smolarek signed with Racing de Santander for a reported ?4.8 million.[6]

The Hash Bomber !

so when he arrives in lancashire he will be known as the tatty hash bomber !! i,ll get mi coat

"4 goals last year in La Liga" - superb !!!

To be fair I think Santander use him as a wide man quite a lot.

His goalscoring record for Poland isn't too bad, though admittedly he probably won't come across Kazakhstan too often in the Premier League.

he'll be no worse than either Vaz T? or Helgusson, so I would welcome him, afterall he is only being brought in as a stop gap until Elmander stops feeling poorly

was there not a decent striker in the 70s called smolarek,

That would be his dad.

This isn't a direct dig but it f?cks me off to high heaven that people will be critcial of a player before he's even signed. Regardless if they know anything about him or not.

This lad had a decent record at Dortmund and will most probably play wide al la Diouf. As he has done in Spain.

For the record how many goals did Diouf get last season playing in a similar position?

Fair enough Jimmy, i agree and take your point on board, just first instincts when it says attacker in the article and then 4 goals - it doesn't look good.

but when do we sign strikers who score goals ? (with one or two exceptions)

I AGREE , THE TATTY HASH BOMBER HAS SCORED GOALS IN THE GERMAN AND SPANISH TOP LEAGUES , AND BECAUSE HE,S POLISH HE IS AUTOMATICALLY COMPARED TO SOME BLOKE WE PLUCKED FROM SOUTHAMPTONS RESERVES ! FFS.

I'm fully expecting Jonathon to come on here spouting the usual b?ll?cks he does when we are linked with a player, it will go along the lines of "I remember watching him Euro '08 and thinking...., and I also remember catching a few La Liga games last year, and I thought he was very...."

I agree with you Jimmy, people are already complaining, and I doubt any of us have ever really watched him play - as you say, some people idolised Diouf, and he rarely scored

Oh that old chestnut....Granted there are a few people on here who do know their stuff in regards to other European leagues. But the most "experts" use an article from the BN, youtube and wikipedia to judge whether a potential signing will be good.

Oh BTW i've followed this lad's progress via a 30 minute highlight show on Eurosport once a fortnight and he's shit HOT :yahoo:

I think Elmander played in the same Feyenoord side that night

and the Football Manager game, don't forget that, it's a really good way of measuring how good a player is now, and how good he will be in say 5 years time

Just looking on wikipedia and i noticed that everytime he has scored for his country they won, hopefully a good omen for us,albeit he scored against some poorer nations but a few goal against some decent countries like croatia & portugal twice.

I think Elmander played in the same Feyenoord side that night

He replaced Bonaventure Kalou for the last 14 minutes, if memory* serves.

There were some cracking players in that final, too.

So we now have a team that includes Shittu and Shithot, i can't wait for ishityounot to sign :good:

On the odd occasion i have seen him hes always looked good. He is definatley an improvement on what we have already got. Vaz Te going the other way is a bonus :yahoo:
