I thought McCann was one of our better performers today.

He was, and has been for most of the season.

 

But he doesn't have a comedy wig or pussy it 40 yards out of play every five minutes, so the fans will never warm to him. For some reason whenever we start losing games he's one of the first people turn on.

On the bright side McCann breaking his toe may be a blessing in disguise

 

It will break up the Nolan/McCann central midfield which in my opinion is the heart of the problem of our mediocre side.Muamba will play now and at least he has some energy/athleticism which those two don't.

 

I'd keep Nolan out of the side till he's got down to an acceptable weight ie whatever it was in 2001/02 when he scored 8 goals and play Muamba with someone who can pass the ball,if there's noone in the squad who can do that then bring someone in.

Shittu ran him close and just edged it IMO. His style of game, with Arsenal having a lack of pace upfront. The Arsenal fans I sat with were lovong his old fashioned agricultural style!

To give the lad a break, he doesn't come across as looking like a 'naturally' fit player. Someone has mentioned the 2001/02 season. That was 7 years ago - how many on here are as fit as they were 7 years ago?

 

If you look at the times that Nolan does appear to be 'dying on his arse' they are normally in the latter stages of the second half, when he has legged it 80 yards (as box-to-box players do) in an attempt to track a man.

 

Don't get me wrong, I am not a massive Nolan fan, but like a lot of 'home grown players' who have come through the ranks, he gets far more shit then is deserved and alot of Bolton fans easily jump on the bashing band wagon.

The reality of the siuation is that we are a club who has crowds a 1/3 the size of Arsenal, they also pay twice as much to watch there club than we do, so realistically we are a tenth the size of Arsenal, so for Bolton to even be on the same pitch is a miracle, we would all love to see the team have a go and with a full team we maybe would have had a better fist of attacking Arsenal, I thought all the team looked very committed and were playing for each other and for Megson, while I am no massive fan of Megson i feel the time is right to get behing him and the Club, after all we are trying to strengthen the team, we have just signed a champions league centre half and are actively looking to spend more money on players than I could have dreamed of, with a little luck in the january window and the fans getting right behind the team in the last 17 games most of which are winnable, we can be safely out of danger long before the season ends, I do not think the negativity surrounding everything the club and Megson does is serving any purpose so I for one will shut up moaning.

Aye, but how many on here are professional athletes, paid a fortune - where one of the main aspects of the job is to keep in peak condition.

 

I'm not keen on knocking our own players,but Kev does seem to be carrying a bit of timber, the best premiership midfielders have 6 packs and ribs.

I can't say I take too much notice of footballers physiques to be honest. Bit gay for my liking.

Mccann played really well imo, Muamba was totally pathetic he is totally out of form at the minute. Obadeyi showed some promise and could be a good player for last 10-15 mins in games. Basham also looked a good prospect, just needs to build himself up a bit more and try not to back off as much and he will make a good player.

Didn't think Muamba was that bad, although he did go missing for some of the game. Think if he gets a proper run of starts he'll play alot better.

With Muamba being an effective part of the 2. However, when he got the ball, the 3 were actually behind him, with the wide players providing cover for the full-backs. So all he can do is attempt a mazey dribble or a long ball.

I do not understand why you need 2 holding players, it leaves you lightweight elsewhwere, and as carlos points out when Muamba sprung forward on a couple of occasions there was no outball for him or any decent support, surely 4-5-1 is defensive enough, again there must be a case of playing either Mcann or Muamba and not both.
