Middlesbrough Game

Is anyone else in two minds about this game?

Negative side

Something tells Boro will come and do to us what we did to them in november

The omens are bad for us. They haven't won away in ages. They haven't scored an away goal in 7 games. Alves hasn't scored in ages and is due one. All these stats remind me of what we were told before the fulham game (they hadn't won away all season and had only scored 3 goals)

I really hope i'm wrong its just that whenever a club or player is on a bad run and they play bolton we seem to bring an end to that run.

On the positive side

Elmander hasn't scored in ages.

Kevin Davies, Matty Taylor and Cahill will hope to prove Capello was wrong not to include them in the 23 man england squad

We haven't scored a goal from the centre of midfield all season - that stat has to change sometime, right!?

As in business rally round the troops with positives, then you will see the difference.

Positive attitude always gets results. :good:

See, that's where I have a problem. Those who show their displeasure by constant criticism and moaning from the stands during games are contributing to what they, allegedly, don't want to see.

If you don't believe me - take a look at Stoke and their home record. Of the 32 points they have won, only 4 have been won away from home. Solid, unwavering support has been a major factor in the 28 points they have amassed at home.

Any chance the negative bast?rds we have in the crowd might be able to grasp this concept?

Off point i s'pose but i'm getting a bit sick of the wankfest over how great Stoke fans are. 15 months ago they wanted Pulis out. They were unable to get above about 12 thou a game until half way through last season. They have a whiff of staying up and< not unnaturally, they are getting behind their team but didn't we do the same last season when every tw@t was writing us off?

I work in Stoke- a big %age of their so-called great fans are JCL's who will disappear like snow in June when they take their place back in the Championship.

Prediction- they don't win another home game this season. When the chips are down and their Prem survival depends on it teams will go to the Brit and compete for those headers they would avoid earlier in the season.

Oh and i've been a couple of times this season including our game there. The atmosphere aint that great

I wasn't joining the w?nkfest or have any time for Stokies. Ceramic mutants.

This is the bit I was after. Hoping that ours will do the same.

Agree- but some of whats required needs to come from the pitch as well. The biggest contrast between Stoke and us isn't the fans its the attitude of the players. They (as limited a bunch as you're ever likely to see in the Prem)are working their cocks off to stay in the division. Our lot seem to be sleepwalking half the time

It seems to me they come to life when they got a throw in anywhere near the oppo's box and only sing Delilah. Great :good:

WTF

i would agree that the atmosphere at Stoke wasn't great.

you get a distorted view as an away fan though, always thinking you're louder than the home fans.

WTF

Could because they have narrowed the pitch down to the smallest allowed dimensions or something

That has undoubtedly helped.

The only thing that worries me about the Boro game is that it follows another weekend off for us, and they don't seem to be doing us any favours this season.

This is a game we really don't want to lose.

Boro will see it as a game they can win and get momentum going, similar to our late run last year. If we draw (or win) that's another game gone.

Exactly.

Its about getting over the finishing line, if that is done with 6 draws then so be it.

If we can't beat that load of shite at home there's something wrong

SPOT ON, END OF THREAD

You'd expect us to beat them.

Mind you, I've said that in each of our last 4 seasons.

3 x 0-0 draws and a 1-1 draw in that time.

The 1-1 draw ultimately cost us a place in Europe too.

I dont like the type of football we play, the possession we readily concede but after 52 years of paying a fortune for tickets, travel/transport, shirts etc I'm not going to suddenly desert the team.

I haven't noticed a change in the way we play. in fact we play more "football" under megson.

I hope we attack and dont go out defensive

We played even more under Sammy Lee and look what happend there, we also played some wonderful football under Colin Todd cant remember what happend there maybe some of the ones that moan about how we play now could enlighten me :pardon:

Just checked the fixture list and it states this is on Sunday, is this correct?

no

We played even more under Sammy Lee and look what happend there,

Looking back, Sammy Lee had the right ideas on how the game should be played but the wrong idea that the players he had could carry out his plan.

I can recall many sat around us quickly losing patience with the nice triangles and possession football we tried to play under Lee with shouts like "get the ball up to Davies", "hoof it", etc. These are the same idiots who are no calling Megson for his Bolton team reverting to type and playing too much long ball football.

Given the players we have now, could the footballing ideas of Sammy Lee have worked or, linking to a thread in the other bit, does it just boil down to him being too small to be a manager?
