16 games without a goal I heard Gowling mention on Saturday. Those who keep saying he will come good, I can see his skills trying to get out, we have faith in him etc etc need to open their eyes.

 

The lad just isn't ever going to fit in at Bolton, he just doesn't fit. He has been given every opportunity this season and apart from a lttle run before Christmas, he has failed to even look like a Premiership forward.

 

I have been willing to accept that he has played his part from time to time this season but fcuk me Mr Nearlyman is getting worse every game he plays.

 

 

If we continue to play him as the lone striker next season we are in for another very long season.

I dont remember internet forums almost as one condemning any of the above three, nor were they universally described by national media as being flops. I agree that they all had their quiet spells but nobody doubted they had talent.

examples of these numerous chances we have allegedly created recently please?

 

a striker used to the Engligh game - cost a phenominal amount of money and unlikely to have the same skill level that Elmander - who do you suggest?

He's just not a player who creates chances for himself. We've had 1 striker capable of that in recent times and that's Anelka - he showed it with his goal at the Emirates yesterday.

 

But players like Anelka are not 10 a penny

 

As has been said earlier - and to paraphrase - playing up front on your own for this Bolton team that creates very little is pretty much a thankless task

 

So (as we seemed to all be saying pre-Anelka) do we change the style of play to help the strengths of our strike-force...or do we have the wrong personnel to suit the way we play?

 

Personally I think up-front (after the goalkeepers) is the very least of our problem areas

He's not exactly been the next Anelka but to say he's missed loads of chances is rubbish - he's had very few decent opportunities. The only one I can remember specifically is that one against Boro when he put it way over the bar. He could have had a goal at Wigan if SKD had squared the ball to him instead spooning it. Not saying he shouldn't have created more for himself but surely the team have got to create something for him? And if they did that you'd see his confidence come back and more goals. Must be really demoralizing being asked to play on your own up front and then expected to chase down balls that are no-where near you and at the same time be in decent scoring positions. Give him another year infront of a better midfield and he'll come good.

Pele would have scored 4 a season for us playing in front of a midfield of Cohen, McCann and Muamba.

 

Let's see if we can sign some half decent creative players and judge him this time next season before we string him up by the bollocks from the Reebok floodlights.

Also don't forget K.D. has had his best season in a Bolton shirt maybe that might have something to do with Elmander.

i should have said in the second half, i was that bored in first half was nt really concentrating, when the sub board came up he was desperate to get off.

Disinterested? He ran all day and then ran a bit more. He made plenty of tackles and worked extremley hard, especially considering he had to rather rigidly stick to being a lone man in the first half. i rally don't get how he doesn't work hard, if there's one thing he is it's a hard worker.

 

Also, I'd bring to point the case of Drogba. Shit first season despite the obvious quality surrounding him. Now look at the lad (without the diving) he's one of the best strikers in the world.

Whereas Elmander has had an incosistent midfield with injuries and little creativity, and has had two lengthy injuries. I'm not saying he's the next Drogba, but at least give him the start of the second season.

As I said, the step up to the Premiership is a tough one and I have seen enough to tell me that Elmander is not going to make it - well not at Bolton playing the way we do anyway.
