Nobody was screwing a living from BWFC in those days. I am lifeline member from those days when "lifeline" actually meant "what it said on the can". Despite his faults I remember a 20 odd match unbeaten run until we got demolished at Mansfield away, and I was there. He did sow the seeds of Rioch's success: Stubbs, McAteer, Walker (on Loan). One season had over 60 games and a full strength team for each one. I wouldn't swap it for the Premier/European years but I was in love with football then and I am not now.

 

Remember: to be a Newcastle or Man U fan is easy, but to be a Bolton fan is very hard. The catchment area is saturated by many clubs including Leeds United because of their success in the Damned United years. Slagging off other BWFC fans with a different opinion does not achieve anything.

 

The other post about comments from the Assistant Manager was refreshing. The club should state what they expect to achieve next season at the end of the previous season i.e. before fans buy their season tickets. If the goal is to stay in the Premier League at any costs and that happens then the manager should be immune from any criticism. However, if the expectations of the club are not achieved, within a reasonable time period, then the manager should lose his job.

 

Man City seem to have adopted this approach. If Hughes does not finish in the top six next season then he will be sacked. Everybody knows where they stand and the fans can get on with supporting their team.

Funny, I think that City have been the worst managed team in the Premiership for quite a while and still are.

 

The fans are either deluded "aren't we massive" moonie types or the original negatives, so there is little likelihood they will get behind supporting the team. City aren't a model for me.

 

Even if they spend a fortune, 6th is a big ask. You have the big 4 then Everton, Aston Villa, Spurs, and well managed clubs like Fulham. They are soft, especially away from home, and I don't see that changing. So what's the virtue of setting a target they won't achieve?

Which bit of a reasonable time period did you not understand. My belief is that the board should state their aims and objectives in that period, appoint a manager to achieve that objective, and if he does not succeed then he loses his job. If he achieves the stated objective then he should be immune from criticism. If you do not agree with that objective you do not slag off the manager you make your own decision how to express your disagreement.

More importantly when a paper (I think the Observer) were doing a tribute to the fans at Heysel Phil Neal who was captain of Liverpool that day said he would talk about the game if he was paid. Whatever the right and wrongs of Heysel demanding money to talk about the night is not classy.
