Yes very good signing indeed.Let's see If we can get enthused about Paul Robinson who will more than likely be the next signing.

Course they do. I just think he's a bit samey to what we already have and would have been more optimistic if the priorty areas had been adressed first.

FFS Russell - we have to get them as they come up. Be patient - I feel sure the identified weaknesses will be addressed. This is just our first shot across the bows and an astute signing in my view.

 

I honestly believe we will reach nondescript mid table anonimity this season. Summat to get excited about, eh?

He's hard as nails, as a team I'd say we'd knock the fuck out of most if it went off.

IMO Megson knows Gardner and taylor can provide ;cover' ther but he see robinson as actually able to play well in that position.

 

plus megson knows him and what his attitude is like.

good point that as gardner is now one of more potent attacking forces I would like to see him continue playing in midfield, same can be said for Taylor, therefore perfectly sensible that another reasonable left back is signed.

I don't think it was actually a 'free' transfer in this case

 

I would guess that although Portsmouth didn't want our ?3.5 million, a good chunk of it is now in Mr S Davis's bank account as a signing on fee.

 

Also probably explains why he is happy to take under the market rate wages - if indeed that is the case.

 

Happy with the signing though - I think everybody wins - Davis money in the bank and a club that wants him, Bolton a good experienced and 'cheap' first team player acquired, and even Portsmouth who although they did not get the money they probably owe Davis thanks for help keeping them in the Premiership which didn't look likely whilst Tony Adams was in charge!
