Latham8WFC Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Has anybody seen Donnie Darko, and if yes, What is it about? I get the general jist of the film, time travel is involved but I don't think i've ever watched a film before and been so confused at the end. But a very good film none the less...... Also, best twist in a film....The Usual Suspects has to be, then Shawshank Redemption a close second.
wovlad Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) Crying Game & The Sixth Sense are good but I'm struggling to find out better twists than the Usual Suspects & Shawshank Cliffhangers, well you can't beat the Italian Job, literally. Edited November 5, 2009 by wovlad
no balls Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 were you choking up when his missus died? be honest! Thanks for that!
superjohnmcginlay Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Thanks for that! In all fairness NB it doesnt really spoil the film

But a very good film none the less...... in my top 5 and no mistake at the end well he managed to suss out how to go back in time, and did so, to kill himself and stop all the other bad sh?t that he'd caused in the previous 30 days not to happen that said I still have doubt everytime I watch it, as it's time travelling aspect is a bit more subtle than say back to the future etc spose that's why I like it, get's you thinking no idea why a big rabbit follows him about prob because he's the twisted brain wrong of a one off man mental

I missed it at the cinema and a mate recommended it and now one of my favourite films, and as you say get's you thinking which is more than most films do these days. I'd aslo like to add Buffalo 66 as another very good film.

Zico Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Watch Mesrine. It's a two part release, the first part is great but the second part is fucking, fucking, fucking brilliant. If it was a Hollywood film it'd be massive. If you like foreign films or aren't put off by subtitles I implore you to watch it. 'Tis French, you see. I'm sure it's available for illegal download by now. Honestly, it's brill. cheers fer the heads up on Mesrine bought both parts for ?12 off play based on recommendations on here watched the first part last night he's one crazy mutha fucka very good film look forward to the 2nd
Maggie Tate Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Ahh, good. Glad to hear a recommendation get a thumbs up. If I remember correctly they're robbing a bank in part 2 and shape to do one when the rozzers sirens are heard in the distance, on the pavement on the way out Mesrine says 'fuck it, let's do the bank over the road too.' Not in the film I don't think but he once met the police with champagne at a bank job. A Prophet is recently out and worth a look too. The other quality foreign flick I've seen lately is The White Ribbon, a bit more of a slow burner.
DirtySanchez Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I watched Valkyrie and thought it was shit, if that helps
Gaz Nt Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 (edited) Watched Surrogates t'other night too. That is also shite! This looks a belter though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSqL9ygBCck As does this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYVrHkYoY80 Edited February 2, 2010 by Gaz Nt

Boothy Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I disagree, Donkey Punch is 5 out of 10 at best. Poor plot once the voilence starts. For a far, far better British Horror i'd recommend Eden Lake, some quality acting too. Harry Brown was another great recent film. A Prophet is a French film that chronicles the criminal career of a young lad who gets sent down and then rises up the ranks to become the prisons top dog. Along with La Haine, it's up there with the French's best. (Although I have yet to watch these Mesrine films) If you struggled to 'get' Gomorro the first time, watch it again. It's difficult with the Italian language, and fairly fast paced. I recommend the book though, much more in depth than the film as per.
Gaz Nt Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Another good english film would be Dead Mans Shoes. Anybody seen that?
