I dont accept the board/manager or whoever sitting on their hands and not being prepared to say they got it wrong. As previous posters have said Megson invested in what he saw as a weak defence when he should have bought a playmaker and striker.

Well as they already have my money as I bought season tickets, not much I can do. Maybe I need to raid the bedsheet box and join the rabble outside the main doors.

the arguement here is that the defensive players he bought were no better than what we already had. but we did need these players for squad depth at the very least.

3 fucking years in a row!! the personnel at the back have changed but villa are still way too quick for us...i actually cannot believe how bad zat knight is, and Ricketts and Robinson just proved how average they are.

Back from Villa & still shellshocked - but at 2-1 & at half time we were still in the game so not a total drubbing.

 

The main problem was at the centre of the defence where both Cahill & Knight were hopeless & physically brushed aside ( i"d have swapped either for Shittu who at least woulld be willing to take some knocks )

 

In midfield Cohen & Lee were anonymous , & Gardner & Taylor looked as if they couldn"t get rid of the ball quick enough. Things improved when Elmander replaced Cohen but he also faded out.

 

IMO -Taylor , Knight & Gardner (who doesn"t look fit ) should be rested,& Cahill needs reminding that his main job is defending but overall we looked physically weaker than Villa & badly lacking leadership on the pitch.

we can do it, but our defense is shocking and yes megson has bought duffers excluding cahill (although he's been ropey recently) if anything our defense is weaker than last season, i'd give AOB or Big Dan a run out instead of Zat as we need to change something.

I think Elmander will be back in the starting line up soon as he has looked decent in last couple of games imo. Hes even been much better than SKD imo, id play them as a pair up front against Blackburn.

yet a year later they gave GM money that could have made a big difference at that juncture. Gamble? the recent defensive signings make that look like a sure bet. As for the money from Anelka his worth was hardly likely to diminish much and ED made a good margin on his sale which the latest results reveal.

 

I for one believe that SA had justified a gamble given the progress the team had made under him.

 

Anyway water under the bridge now. I still feel very uncomfortable about our position this year and we seem to be going slowly back wards.

At Christmas, Sam asked for money. The club had a large debt repayment to be made in the April.

They attempted and failed to get a loan secured against the Sky money/ Prem Prize money due to them in June/July. Therefore, Allardyce was told there'd be no funds until the summer.

 

He spat his dummy and eventually walked. In the summer after he left, the promised funds were available, but Sammy Lee and subsequently Gary Megson became the beneficiaries.

Seriously though I don't mind getting beaten by a better side however Knight for one should have paid for a ticket because he spent most of the game just watching. For the first goal, Knight was closer to Jussi than Young yet didn't react when Jussi parried the ball. Same for the penalty, why did the Bolton defence not run towards the goal when the penalty was taken thereby anticipating the two rebounds. Cahil had another poor game but at least he made up for his mistake by being the assist for Elmander.
