How much has Megson actually spent ie the total transfer deficit?

Off the top of my head:

Steinnsson - ?3.25m

Cahill - ?5m

Taylor - ?3.75m

Elmander - ?8.2m

Knight - ?4.5m

Muamba - ?5m

Robinson - ?2m

Ricketts - ?2.5m

Cohen - 2 trackies and a sponge

Riga - they paid us

Shittu - ?2m

Chungy - ?2m

Davies M - ?1m

?39.2m got that off top of my head so may be missing some or got a few the odd 1/4 of a mill out - still up there with the clubs I listed?

i'll bet you don't

fact is we've reduced the quality of a shit team by 20 million

so, owt other than net spend is unfair

and bollocks

Sorry Cas I just don't agree had that ?20m disappeared then fine but it was re-invested in the team it is bollox yes that megson hides behind week in week out

other than the 3 'decent' players we sold (Diouf, Anelka and Nolan)

he's also had to replace ageing players too in Campo, Speed, Stelios etc

the shit that Lee/Allardyce signed Cid, Mikel Alonso, Wilhelmsson, Braaten etc

the fact that only 5 (perhaps 6 if you includ AlHabsi) players in our regular 1st team squad come from the pre-megson era shows the massive transition that this club has gone through.

Megson's transfer dealing on the whole have been fairly decent he just can't seem to sign a decent CB

Sorry fellas but you are missing my point thats a seperate argument whether he's spent the money wisely or not all I am saying is he's spent the money he always makes out he's had 2 parts of fuck all he's had ?40m to re-invest so why does he keep banging on about having crumbs from the table - good management is about moving players on raising money and if you are lucky in football which he has been getting to spend it on your own players

Net Spend is the measure that you have to use, no business says "We've spent ?40m this year, that's awful" without looking at the profits (or indeed loss)

I have an ongoing row with a Liverpool fan who says Benitez hasn't spent much money, in fact they are the 3rd highest spenders in the PL since 2004 (Both net and gross).

Meggo has spent money, some good, some bad, just like every other manager has.

Megson has had ?40m to invest in his team not net ?6m or lowest in the league.... ?40m that is a fact and moreover he was doubly lucky some bright spark ahead of him bought Anelka because that stroke of genuis got him ?10-?12m of it after ED had his slice

But as its already been pointed out, some bright spark also bought Cid, Mikel Alonso, Wilhelmsson, Braaten

*decent commanding centreback, who can organise.

which i do beleive he has tried with obrien, shittu and knight.

imo he knows where the weakness is, but finding that player is obviously tough.

I don't dispute that one bit he inherited alot of shite fortunately for him he had ?40m to put it right unfortunately for us he fucked it up

but he only got rid of that by selling players and bringing the wage bill down.

put Tall Ben or Faye alongside Cahill and i feel we'd be alot stronger at the back perhaps having a better 'team' than when he took over

But you cant pick and choice which is what you are doing, you are picking to fit your argument

Wonder if Tal might be tempted back now Pompey are up the creek again?

Thanks to Megson, the new manager will inherit 3 right backs on good wages, the club's record signing and the club's most expensive midfield signing.

The latter two who were both deemed not good enough to start in the crucial match at Wolves...

No I am just pointing out he has spent ?40m on players thats up there with the majority of clubs I named early nothing more nothing less thats it.

If you sell your car for ?5,000 then buy a new one for ?6,000 and the doors and wheels fall off and it breaks down you are fucked off because you spent ?6,000 on the thing not net ?1,000 - question how much was your new car - it was ?6,000 not it was net ?1,000....how much was your squad Gary? Net ?6m no no no it cost ?40m to assemble.

I've made my point I'll go and lie in a dark room before I get in trouble off da mods

Isnt that because hes at centre back for them

you accept he inherited shit

he then sold 20 millions worth...3 of the best 4 players we had

hardly shocking he's spent a fair whack along the way in keeping us afloat

The wage bill's gone up.

i think theres more to come on that story

i think theres more to come on that story
How so?

Well , we beat you to it !!

Bolton born legend Mariner in charge for now. Hopefully he can turn it around enough to stay up

If his signings have been "good" how come ?20m of them were on the bench vs Wolves.

I'd say his signings, apart from Cahill, have been average at best.

I think that he has done well in the transfer market, but we won't know until we have a decent manager in.

Ah ........ nail & head at last.

It's not just about doing well in the transfer market on individual players, it's about producing an effective team.

Which is where GM falls down.

....but, as many players have before, could flourish under a new manager and more expansive style of play.

Who knows? Just want the Megson era to end quickly now and get someone like Curbishley in to (hopefully) stop the rot (not just results wise but the rifts within the club and its support).

I dont judge a manager on whether I hate him or not, and I do not neccesarily want any of these names to get the job however I am convinced Warnock/Blackwell and Jewell are no worse than Megson and I am also sure that they would send teams out with a more attack minded formation and I am even more sure that they would not slag of the fans at every end and turn.

Fair point Mr Kipper and usually i would agree but Warnock, just cant do it. I hate the cunt but more impotantly I think he is shit. I never really like Allardyce but respected him.
