It aint good enough that Megson continues to slate the Bolton support, I think the majority do not like him but it is only a vocal minority that air there views, my thoughts are that he will get to the end of the season and whether we are relegated or stay up he will be gone.

If you're talking about the small minority who scrawled on bedsheets from day one then maybe. Trouble is that walking out of Wolves everyone was grumbling about him - from Yoof through to middle ages piss pots and even the Werthers mob. Now if such bad relations sour the atmosphere then that wont help us stay up. And its alright saying we can exist financially without the fans - that idea goes down the khazi if we get relegated. I mentioned the Brum game - and Cass, I honestly don't think he would have got grief - simply because it was a good example of how travelling fans can still play a part and the empathy between players and fans when they celebrated scoring the winner was great. Trouble is that if the relationship with manager sours that, then a few vital away wins might not transpire. Thus to my mind it's fair to argue that cultivating that relationship is a vital part of the manager's job; and I see no evidence of that sort of PR effort. Why not, just for once, brush aside questions about criticisms and actually praise the fans? Even if he doesn't believe it!

So your vision for a football club is that we have the players and management paying paid a fortune and those poor unfortuante fans with less ability have to pay for the privliege and are expected to be grateful for being allowed to give up their time and money.

well as I said a while back, that should be Gartside's/Davies's decision. If the job requires interaction with fans then he should be fooking made to do it. After all, he was hardly in a position to refuse - what was he going to do? Decline it and head off back to the sack at Leicester or nip over to Stoke's training ground to run some more sessions for nowt?

Fucking hell, I think we can all say that even if we quite like our jobs, there's aspects to them that are a pain and we'd rather not do. But you get on with it - and for much much less money than he gets.

There's only two scenarios here - either (i) he simply hates the whole PR and fan side of things. trouble with that is, unless you're a managerial genius who can deliver amazing success come what may, the fact is you need the fans alongside you and the team. OR (ii) he's capable of doing it but he's still sulking because of the actions of 2 dozen bell-ends and a bedsheet on his first day.

The really daft thing here is that what we're talking about here is the easy bit.

Football should go back to how it used to be when I first started watching. Fans never saw the manager because he sat in the stand not jumping up and down on the touchline. And they didn't give rent a quotes to the media either. Nobody knew the names of club chairmen because they kept low profiles as well. Players were paid reasonable wages and television was rarely in the grounds. There were no action replays showing referees up to be cunts. No pushing and shoving in the goal mouth at corners. If a player went down he was genuinely injured. It was very rare to see a player sent off. One of the first sendings off I saw was at Deepdale and happened so close to the players tunnel that he was off before the crowd realised which led me to think that players sent of should do a lap of dishonour so that the crowd would know. The first player I ever saw sent off was Cyril Robinson who was playing for Blackpool B aginst Chorley. At the end of that season he played in the Cup Final against Bolton. Back to my rant, there were loads of shots on target that goalkeepers had to save. Goalies only wore gloves if the ball was greasy and a flat cap if the sun was in their eyes.

Megson is a PR disaster because he doesnt know when to keep his mouth shut. He is an employee of Bolton Wanderers, and he should keep his opinions of the fans to himself. Life is not always about being honest, sometimes you have to bite your tongue and keep your mouth shut.

 

Fans are entitled to voice there opinions. The manager is extremely well paid to manage the team. If he cant take criticism, whether fair or indeed justified then he is in the wrong job. If he has the backing of the chairman he gets his head down and bats on with the job in hand.

 

Eddie Davies is a good businessman, and he more than anyone must surely realise the value and importance of being politicaly astute and that honesty is not always the best policy.
