Spurs 4 Wanderers 0 Hammer

We are rubbish.

He has to gamble against Wolves and play 442 and go at them. OC seems to be too cautious so we are now not scoring but still shipping goals for fun.

Hardly a gamble, Wolves at home you go on the attack. A gamble would be 4-5-1

steinsson cahill knight jls should be perfectly adequate for a mid table side IMO

Same back four as i would go for but i think it is far from a mid table defence, too many mistakes. Cahill obviously has quality and if we lost him this summer we would be up shit street. Credit to Megson for buying Cahill and im sure we will get ?10m for him but he spent nearly ?20m on defenders and the group of them together look a bit shit IMO.

right - Hunt, Ricketts, Steinnsson

Centre - Cahill, Knight, AOB, Shittu, Basham

Left - Samuel, Robinson

Fair enough Hunt, AOB, Basham and Samuel where not his signings but they cost fuck all between them.

Knight had a few decent games, but has now returned to his usual self, we could be winning 3-0[we always throw away 2-0 leads] and with him in defence you wouldn't be convinced of victory.

Gifted Roman 2 goals, as for Jussi and O'Brien they really need to give there head a wobble.

How can the attacking players get any confidence, when they know the defence are gonna let them down, giving goals away, which then brings on more pressure has the opposition get confidence and then our attackers are to busy defending[trying to help out] rather than getting us goals.

When we do get chances, we simply can't score, why can't the team build on our goal v Spurs at the Reebok, that was brilliant, tonight v Spurs we played some good stuff, some nice interplay and had a lot of chances, but it's all pointless because we are losing, only once v Stoke have we come back to get a point. It's really disappointing, to many times we see mistakes and it's gonna cost us a place in the Premiership next season, not many fancies Bolton tonight, but we lost due to players not doing there job and having no respect for the badge, Jussi should know better, Knight and O'Brien are simply not good enough, but you wouldn't expect errors like they do from a conference player never mind a Premiership player.

I just can't wait till this season is over, Do the players not care? Coyle can do them good, but at least show him you have respect and are prepared to play to your full potential, we are not one of the 3 worst in the league but if we carry on not scoring and making mistakes then Bolton will be in the Championship and that will be 1 full year of rubbish.

i'm fcuking fed up

holden did ok

riga did better than ok...in fact, with out toothless attack, its hard to justify not playing him on saturday, but ONLY with elmander, so it won't happen

the one improvement we had seen under coyle, apart from some nice passing around the half way line, was some clean sheets

the defence looks a shanbles now, in keeping with the rest of the team

be honest, if you were picking a team for saturday, just who would you say has to be on the sheet

you know, the ones who just have to play

the ones who demand selection

i'd argue for one player and thats muamba...ironic that under this new 'attacking' manager, the one must pick is a defender

nb not arsed about the result, he couldve played the under10s for me

coyle had a transfer window to try and fix that.

he didnt.

Whilst I agree with this Jay. I don't think it's his fault. The previous manager needed to strengthen the centre of defence at the start of the season. In fact he weakened the whole of defence by bringing in Knight, Ricketts and Robinson. Coyle saw the numbers when he arrived, decided to give everyone a chance and assumed we just needed more passing footballers in midfield. He only had a few weeks to assess. Most of us knew our best defence and that it was not good enough. Coyle probably knows now.

We have 1 excellent centre half and a couple of decent full backs. The rest are frankly shocking! I think this fact is down to the 2 previous managers and sadly mostly Megson!

I'm pleased with the composure and ability of Holden... I think Coyle is a good judge of a footballer if his 3 loan signings are a taste of things to come. No manager could pick a decent defence from what we have got. It just isn't there!

Not sure it flattered Spurs, but he sounds positive for the weekend.

Owen Coyle has reflected on Wanderers' exit from the FA Cup at the last-16 with a mixture of disappointment in the result and encouragement in the performance.

The Wanderers boss saw his team put in a brave show at White Hart Lane and he explained that his focus has now returned to the Premier League campaign.

"I made five changes to the team after the Blackburn game and I was pleased with the response of the players who came into the starting line-up," said Coyle.

"That is exactly what I want my players to do - fight for the right to wear the Wanderers jersey.

"We are disappointed to lose any game, but I felt that the scoreline flattered Spurs.

"Sam Ricketts was blocked by Modric for the first goal and it was a big moment because we were comfortable with the score at nil-nil.

"We then had to come out and chase the game against a very good team and they had two slices of good luck for the own goals.

"I absolutely love the FA Cup because it is the best competition in world football and I put a team out there that I believed could win.

"But we recognise that our cup finals start on Saturday. We have six games left at the Reebok and we have to make sure that Bolton Wanderers stay in the Premier League.

"I really believe that when it clicks for us that we are going to hit some team for three or four. It only takes one to go in to get the ball rolling.

"We will look to put our stamp on it and take our first steps at the weekend."

All i'm hearing from some fans, players and manager is if's but's or maybe's, at the end of the day the players will win the points, and at the moment they are not showing they can acheive what we all want.

Time to put words into goals and cut out the stupid mistakes, because i do not want to see Bolton go down

turning point for me was gardner missing with that header

we really should score chances like that and its not the managers fault that we don't

On reflection

We'll beat teams playing like that

I honestly don;t think tha Coyle has worked out his best team yet

Worse still, he probably can't work out who's going to "turn up"

Frustrating

I agree that missed chances, especially the first ones, turn games and that this has definately cost us hugely.

I also agree that this is not the current managers fault at the moment. However the previous managers have managed to assemble a squad with on average very poor finishing skills. This is a vital, essential part of the game and I don't blame the players! This is something you either have or haven't got. When assembling a squad you need to make judgments on each players finishing ability if you intend to play them in positions where they will get your chances.

Utimately this is the managers fault. However I will only blame Coyle if Wilshere, Weiss or Holden miss easy chances!

oh no you couldn't, and oh no there isn'ttongue.gif

Reading from left to right as it appears on my screen, i.e. Steinsson was the 1st defender I got to, well I had to disagree!

As for saying Coyle had a transfer window to sign new players? dont you think the Chairman and owner know the club faces probably a losing battle against relegation and therefore decided the best option was loan players, that way should the worst come to the worst they are not contracted on high wages. Wiltshere must start against Wolves on Saturday else his loan signing seems pointless.

Just wish that we had some strength on the ball (Muamba excluded) and more experience in midfield.

We knew from the first leg that Bale steaming down the left was their attacking threat. Whoever it was, probably Matt Taylor did a poor job covering him last night.

i don't know why they thought that

there was no way we should've gone down

with the worst manager the world had ever seen, with negativity everywhere you looked, we were getting a point a game

with the appointement of a much better manager, its crazy that its got so bad

i'm not one for 'must win' games in february, but fcuk me, i could be tempted to make an exception for this one

agreed, take the mistakes out and we did reasonbly well considering we were playing a top4 contender.

still gotta take chances though if we are to have any chance of staying up.

between the two penalty areas, we're ok

sadly, its what happens in the other bits that wins and loses games

Zat Knight is a liability at centre half. Its a shame because I thought he might have turned a corner with some decent performances of late, but unfortunately the mistakes are back.

The players need to stand up and be counted. Its not Coyle who has got them into this mess, they have collectively not been good enough all season. Its time to stand up and be counted!!

there are far worse defensive fullbacks in the league than steinsson. spurs have 2 in ecotto and bale, but they have decent centre backs to compensate.

he did turn the corner, then cahill got injured, coyle put a right back next to him and he turned back again.

cahill injury could prove to make or break our season.

I don't disagree, but we should have signed a loan striker who just might have known where the net was now & then.

That's bollocks, 3 of Knights best games this season have come against Fulham, Tottenham and Wigan. In all 3 he wasn't with Cahill, 2 were with Rickets and 2 of them were clean sheets.

Generally last night was again extremely disappointing with the same problems continuing. I am not sure how, maybe a bit of luck, a wonder goal, a refereeing decision going our way, but change needs to happen and happen quickly, Wolves is massive.

Didn't expect anything last night, I was just praying for a goal, as Coyle said, I believe one will lead to more and then we need to get resolute again at the back, a big ask, but the fans and more importantly the manager and players need to believe this can happen Saturday.

One big positive last night was Holden, thought he looked good
