  • I have a journey from Horwich to Blackrod tomorrow, hopefully my travel arrangments won't be disrupted.

Hope there's no backlog - I fly to Portugal tomorrow morning.

On the volcano thing; has anyone read Superfreakonomics by Levitt and Dubner (the follow up to Freakonomics)??

Both books are a great read, but anyway they claim there's a bunch of (clever) folk in America that reckon that the sulphur from volcanoes going off acts like a "cloud" that protects the earth from global warming - a "stratoshield" - some scientists did a study after one volcano went off and the atmosphere cooled for 12mths in that region after, so a company called Intellectual Ventures proposed huge chimneys going directly into the atmosphere pouring out sulphur to stop global warming and reckon a solution could be that simple...

It's very interesting and has caused huge controversy in the States...

Hope there's no backlog - I fly to Portugal tomorrow morning.

I hope for your sake there isn't, but I have a feeling there could well be, as flights are being grounded all over the UK at the minute and tomorrow is supposed to be even worse.............as that's when most of this volcanic cack will get here

Fingers crossed for you mate

Hope there's no backlog - I fly to Portugal tomorrow morning.

Tuesday for me, hope no more of the shit comes over

My Mam is coming over tomorrow morn, Liverpool to Belfast. Looking at the map of worst affected areas I'd be hopeful that's one

of the routes they can operate fairly normally - it only takes about half an hour and isn't high altitude. If you're heading

to Scandanavia you're fucked, it would seem.

I'm going to Jersey tomorrow.

Corresponding flight this morning was one of the very few to go ahead.

It does seem bizarre to cancel very short flights when the ash is at high altitude

Volcanic ash forces airlines into mass cancellations - UPDATED

British Airways is offering full refunds or re-bookings for passengers whose flights have been cancelled due to disruption caused by ash from the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

BA said it would not be able to operate flights after 11.30 today from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City Airport.

All BA domestic services have already been cancelled today (Thursday).

Ryanair cancelled all flights to and from the UK from 09.00.

Flybe stopped flights from 09.30 affecting 24,764 passengers who will be offered alternative flights or refunds. Only 11 out of 565 flights operated today from the 38 UK airports the airline uses.

"For safety reasons and on the direction from Air Traffic Control Service (NATS) a decision has been made to cancel a number of flights and close all London airports," BA said.

"As a result all airlines will be impacted and we will therefore not be able to operate services after 11.30 from London Heathrow, London Gatwick and London City."

The measures came as the plume of volcanic ash spread southwards towards northern Europe and is "severely affecting" all airlines' flights in the area, BA's website said.

Passengers are being advised to check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport.

ABTA said it is working closely with the relevant authorities and airlines to ensure members are kept informed of the most up-to-date information on the impact of the volcanic ash disruption.

"Passengers travelling imminently are advised to liaise with their travel provider or airline for the latest information in relation to their travel plans," the association said.

Some airlines and tour operators have posted statements on their websites and this information will be updated on a regular basis until the situation returns to normal, at this stage no timescales have been indicated.

Further information for customers and members can also be found on www.abta.com.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: ?National Air Traffic Services (NATS) have confirmed that no flights will be permitted in UK controlled airspace until 18.00 today, due to the volcanic ash drifting across the country from Iceland, endangering the safety of aircraft.

?These restrictions are affecting all aircraft movements across UK airports including Manchester. Arriving and departing flights at Manchester have now been suspended from 07:00 until 18.00 today when a further update will be issued.

?Our advice to passengers is to check with your airline before you travel to the airport today. We have extra customer service and office staff in the terminals that are on hand to help.

?We would like to thank passengers for their incredible patience and understanding in these bizarre circumstances and would like to apologise to passengers for the inconvenience that this has caused.?

i reckon its cos they have intelligence muslims are gonna light up the sky

Bloody Icelandics - if it's not the Cod wars, it's the banks or the Vikings or bloody volcanoes. If it wasn't for Gudni I'd siggest sinking it and having done with 'em for good

Pissed off as I am at potentially having issues flying to the Algarve tomorrow, it's a bit harsh blaming Icelandics for a bloody big volcano - be it in Iceland or not!

I'm off on a 3 day bender to Limoux in the morning to watch the mighty Leyth. Manchester to Toulouse at 7am.

If it doesn't happen then I'll be left with no option but to piss in the fridges and smear shit all over the windows of my local Iceland.

They need to understand thats it's just not acceptable in a civilised society.

The Leigh rugby team got skrewed up at Liverpool airport this morning as well.

They didnt even make it to the airport.

They trained this morning, had a feed in the Park Inn, and got the coach instead.

If we all go outside at an arranged time, say 5pm, and waft a cardboard box or bin lid northwards, I'm sure we can create enough of a gust to blow it back to iceland.

Pass this on, and lets make a difference.

how much can we sell this stuff for per gramme ?

The flight was 3.00 pm today, as we were flying back Sunday night and with a probable backlog of flights did not think we would get new flights any time soon. so Stoke it is.

Gutted for you, I'm clinging to a hope that we'll be ok flying tomorrow morning - unfortunately the airline and airport currently can't tell us anything!

News on radio is saying no flights until 7am tomorrow at the earliest.

Fish eating eskimo bastards. Keep your own shit in your own yard.

My flights been cancelled so I'm going home now to beat next doors cat with an axe.

I know someone who is stuck in Frankfurt on full expenses. He's hoping the whole of Iceland goes up in smoke.
