Went and got myself engaged! Early stages but we are looking round for venues want to have do in Bolton or surrounding areas really for the guest travel etc.

Anyone been to a place or had a wedding of their own somewhere that they could recommend?

Been to a couple at the stately home/ Posh Hotel type places and they never seem as much fun and as good as the church/Registry office then to the reception and a Con/Lib/Lab etc club.

Been to a wedding at Rivie Barn tonight, tip top but not a clue what it costs. ?3 a pint for shit lager if that helps.

Last Drop is a wedding factory 4 rooms 4 weddings avoid IMO. I get wed end of this month do is at Red Hall in Rammy they have been superb highly recomend.

Don't be a total twat and have those cuntish Chinese lantern things that float off to land somewhere out of your control either creating an eyesore, hazard or start a fire directly. Cuntshovellers.

I went to a superb wedding at Last Drop, they got married in the chapel room which is joined to a reception room, bucks fizz and violins etc, then the main hall was huge for the night do. The Last Drop caters for weddings of all sizes. Dobbies is a nice room at Bradley Fold too. Its all down to size really, say 150 are going id say Portofino's on the A6 in Blackrod is good, 250 Dobbies, anymore Last Drop. Im a DJ and these venues are very good with professional staff, they put the customer before a early night

 

Also dont let the venue dictate to what you want, some wont let you use outside caterers or DJ's. Make sure there's no houses around the venue too, a lot of clubs are walking a tightrope due to noise from bands/disco's. Check everything first

I would recommend Stanley House in Mellor, Ribble Valley - top draw!

Get married on the pitch at half time.

 

Reception in the hotel after.

The last couple of weddings i've been to at Smithills coaching house have been good,not too expensive - but not like summat out of shameless either,a nice happy medium.If you've got no more than about 150 guests,then the stables room is good - a bit like being in your own little nightclub, but they have bigger rooms if you have more guests.

Food was propper shit last time i went to Smithills, so get your own catering in if you can.

I'd have thought Last Drop would be perfect if you are over that way with the church.

We got married at Park Hall, Camelot, and would recommend it. not too far away.

 

We got hitched in the local church, although we had to visit twice a month for best part of a year.

 

At park hall we had the medieval room. it has a big and private bar down some steps, and a huge buffet room off the main room. the main room holds up to 200, mininum 120 i think.

 

There is also lots of space the main room doors for smokers and people milling about.

Some great advice on here, and I agree with some of it, DONT DO IT !

Of my three marriages,i had them at Bolton town hall, Bolton rugby club and the Bellagio in Vegas got to say the Bellagio pissed it.

We got wed and had our 'wedding breakfast' at Egerton House. Top scran, decent ale, excellent value and second to none service. For a bigger do they have a kind of barn thing (technical term) around the back.

 

For the evening do we had the upstairs at the Watermillock. From what I remember the ale was acceptable though I think I was on shorts for most of the night! The surroundings are top, for photos in the grounds to the decor inside and there's a bijou upstairs bar for guests.

 

One thing though, book your own DJ as no matter what you tell the house DJ your prefeferences are, he'll ignore them and play the bloody spice girls, girls aloud, crap R & B (which isn't really RnB) and whatever else he gets out of the 99p CD bin at Tesco (I believe this was before the now commonplace downloading of everything onto a data chip the size of your fingernail).

 

Obviously things may have changed since then (6 years ago!) but they're still worth a look.

 

FWIW I can recommend a very reasonable outside caterer........!

we had our wedding breakfast in reflections at the reebok and the reception in the platinum suite, the food was bloody amazing both in reflections and the buffet. the buffet was out of this world!!! friggin amazing
