January 25, 201115 yr who would we buy whose better than what weve got stupid money being spent on very average players So you are saying stick with what we gave got then? I dint think we need massive changes in the squad but investment is a must if we are to progress.
January 25, 201115 yr Author who would we buy whose better than what weve got stupid money being spent on very average players The 'who' is the job of the club, but say we got ?15m for cahill as some papers are saying (silly money for average players as you say) with that we should be looking to bring in 2 or 3 players. not saying it is easy but these people get paid tens of thousands pounds a week, they earn that money when things are going badly more than when it is all easy.
January 25, 201115 yr i agree the squad needs strenthening but to buy quality it cost, and the money from cahill wont go a long way
January 25, 201115 yr i agree the squad needs strenthening but to buy quality it cost, and the money from cahill wont go a long way I agree with that but it may free up wages for loan signings to get us to the end of the season. Transfer fees always inflated in January so that's why I would cash in in the lad.
January 25, 201115 yr I agree that selling him is the best option, but I also agree that theres not much we can do with a week left. And I have to say that at the end of the season I would have Al Habsi back and see what we can get for Jussi, and thats not a knee jerk from last night, due to anewmans slating of him I've watched him a bit closer this season, and although I wouldn't agree that he is at fault for as many goals as he says, I do agree that he is past his best and Al Habsi has been unreal for the pie eaters. Jussi (preferably someone new) Cahill Knight Robinson or Al Habsi (the new player) Wheater Knight Robinson - plus the ?19m or so that we could get for Cahill and Jussi? I know which one I would prefer!
January 25, 201115 yr Also, the thing is, Cahill & Knight isn't working and has rarely worked. Same as SKD & Elmo at the other end. Something needs changing (as well as the full backs and the midfield defending) if we're to improve. Selling Cahill is one option. We'd still have Wheater, Knight & Ricketts. Changing from 4-4-2 (as if !) is another option. I'm sure there are more. I suspect we go with what we've got ...... players & system.
January 26, 201115 yr take the money and invest in the team. I suppose it depends what we would get for him, on current form, would anybody pay more than ?10M for him? - I'm not so sure, and if we got some cash for him, would it be reinvested, or be used to service our debt?
January 26, 201115 yr Form is temporary, class is permanent as they say. Cahill is above average but in poor form. Someone will pay good money for him, but not ?20m. ?10m is too cheap for one of our more saleable assets.
January 26, 201115 yr Keep him. He's had a few poor games but he's class. He's young and he'll come on. He's not gone crap in a few weeks.
January 27, 201115 yr The problem is we will still have to buy another centre half with this investment. As it stands we have 3 recognised centre halves when we got Wheater in. Sell Cahill and we are down to 2 again. This is obviously not enough to cover injury and suspensions. Ricketts has played there as a stop gap but week in week out not good enough.

Let's have it right - Cahill is a very good centre half who will be a fixture in a top side for years to come. He's not looked great the last couple of months, granted, but Knight's in the middle (or hopefully at the end!) of his worst spell since he came to the club and the midfield more often than not constitutes a guard of honour rather than a shield. We'll sell him in the summer for decent money and he'll go on to better things.

Very good post and the midfield guard on honour is bang on I can see Knight having a game or two off with Wheater taking his place in the near future if hes not careful.

take the money and invest in the team.
