Just paid my tax. Was on hold for 40 mins the other night. Bells.

I phoned them Wednesday, I was on hold 20mins. I gave the lady my N.I number, D.O.B, full name and address etc before she would speak to me.

 

"How can I help?"

"My accountant needs my UTR number so I can pay"

"Sorry Sir, we are unable to give that number out"

"So what is my next move?"

"We can send it out by letter, it will be with you in six days"

"But I'll get fined ?100 for it not being in on time"

"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do or prompt the number on your correspondence"

So what did you underpay this year?

I've got a slight underpayment on a change of car, but the big problem is expenses. The tax code they have just given me is wrong, and I've been speaking to them about it for around 3 months. I did a self assessment form and sent it in, but the person at the other end didn't key all the informaiton in correctly. Apparently they have to go and get the files, but I'm just bouncing around depratments at the minute. I have a copy of the form that I sent to them, and said that I can re-submit, but they have advised it has to go through the proper channels, and they need to see my original form.....

 

It will be sorted out(so I've been told), it probably won't be before the new tax year starts, which means that I'll be a few hundred quid light for at least one month

problem was i had 3 cars in that time and assumed - wrongly - tht when i got the third car, i was paying tax on the second

 

cos they were slow in picking up the information, i was still on the first car

one of my lads is have the same issue, he's had the car 18 months now,

 

have they send him a letter saying he's underpaying tax, yup!

 

but have they sent me a new tax code, nope!

What do you mean? Your finances are so complicated that you need an accountant to do your self assessment for you? I have one who does my personal accounts and my company ones, worth his weight in gold.

I switched from Company Car to personal car and back over the last two years and I'm fucked if I can get them to tell me what's wrong. The bastards.

yeah, should've mentioned, in one tax year when i underpaid, i received about 6 coding notices
