Superb find!! Obviously I’d love my Dad to be still alive (sadly at 105 it would be wishful thinking) but it’s stuff like this that rings so many bells about stuff he told me By 1945 he’d be

It was Scott Taylor . Corner dropped about 2 feet out from the line and he bundled it over then cleared. Even the Spurs fans were singing "It crossed the line , It crossed the line. "

Correct! Even the ref felt sorry for them by that point.

One abiding memory from that was, day after I drove up for it, a Leicester fan at work who'd been to their game that night said the biggest cheer (they must have lost) that night came from them when they were filing out and the Bolton score came over the tannoy....

Bit like after the Arsenal cup game when I had to get back to Southampton and so get a late train from Waterloo. Bumped into a bunch of very moody looking West ham fans who clocked my shirt. Shouldn't have worried - they started applauding having heard the score!

For some reason, until I checked earlier, I had it in my head as Alan Mahon that scored that goal

Thinking he must've upset me in another game v Tranmere

Could it be the league cup semi final , the name rings a bell . I really hate that club .

I was on a stag do in Edinbourough for that weekend . Everyone was under strict instructions to not even breath a word of the score . I taped the match and watched it on the Monday . Gutted was an understatement . Mate of mine went to the game . The most placid Wanderers fan ever and he said that coming out of that shitty away end with their fans goading just across the road , he nearly went steaming in . Both agreed that id have come back in a paddy wagon , so small mercies I guess .

looking back , a draw away wasnt a bad result . We fucked up at Oldham a few weeks earlier.

I was gutted , we really deserved that accolade for how well we had played that season . Did Toddy make a substitution just before the equaliser?

Yeah He subbed Brannagan off for Gavin Ward as Ward only needed one more appearance for his Champions medal .

Although IMO , that didnt make a difference . The goal was right in the postage stamp and no one would have saved it .

Todd later said the dressing room after the game was as if we had been relegated . not helped by the other lot celebrating like they had won the World Cup .

I just checked , Mahon scored the second goal ( a penalty) in the second leg of the League cup semi final.

Bergsson was such a goal threat that season - 10 goals if memory serves.

We could do with our defence contributing some more goals this season the amount of corners we get

Don't think I've seen these goals since the actual game! I seem to remember thinking both Garnder and Ricketts goals being carbon copies of the ones they went on to score in the final.

Not quite, but not a million miles off!

That bizarre,  I could type your  description word for word regarding my memory , the Ricketts goal especially, i couldt have sworn he was played through the middle.

I was living in Aylesbury at the time . Taped the highlights by Central TV , Went to the game,  and me dad taped the North West Highlights .

So Completely different between the two it was amusing .

That Bergsson goal is worth showing to the current crop! So simple but so difficult to defend against.

Ricketts really had it all, didn’t he?

Oh yeah also on this. Niche, very niche, but...

Great goal nets, but something i dont think ive ever seen before, different styles of stanchion at one end of the pitch to the other. One the old school round type ones, the other that unique square type thing we had for a season or two.

I love an unusual goal net me.

Well spotted , also Meggo's face at the end , if looks could kill. I remember we went in the pub afterwards watching Preston beat Brum on pens , I think it was when Francis had a melt down .

For a short period of time, he was pretty much impossible to defend against

All this will be yours someday, Gary.
