i went to olympus (not the chippy part, the restraunt part) give her my CV and when i got home literally 1 second down the road she rang me and told me to come back. so i did and she said she loved my cv but shes just started someone and will ring me in a week.

Surprisingly... 2 weeks later, still no call and she was putting a sign up for waiteress/waiters. now i refuse to eat in there unless i go to the chippy part only.

Ooh, an eatery quiz. Name of the Greek restaurant on Deansgate.

Which restaurant do the brothers now run?

The Kakoulis brothers? they've run the Toby Inn at Edgworth for a good number of years.

Speaking of Greek restaurants, are there any decent ones knocking about not to far away?

I frequent a belter a few times in summer. Problem is, it's in Crete.

They do a belting kleftiko.

I havent tried Halay, but do fancy it.

I've lost count of the name changes that place has had!

I remember going years ago when i think there was a fuckin huge Jamaican fella running the kitchen.. he was a good chef, cant think of the name of it though.

Was it Red or something then?

Anyway, I've had a couple of decent meals from there. Not for a few months like, but still, it's still the same bloke there. Something a bit different from your usual Iti or curry.

Pascal's

Guy now back in the Windies. He used to chef at Buck Palace. His Seafood Jambalaya was the greatest dish in all of creation. Sadly missed.

Horwich has more restaurant's on Winter Hey Lane alone than Bolton town centre.

Oh, Red Lion in Hawkshaw has reopened after renovation. Quite smart. JW Lees owned.

Is the food still as good?

Used to do a cracking Sunday Roast in there.

Where was the old 'Pizzaland'? - independently owned if I remember rightly (Opposite Olde Three Crowns? Near Stolen From Ivor) Try asking for a coke-float in Pizza Hut these days, you might get some mouse droppings floating in it if your lucky.

Are there still those two greasy spoons in Farnworth? One on the Market and another called the Pat-a-Cake?

I used to go in those about ten/twelve years ago and they were like a 70s/80s timewarp.

My elder sister and brother-in-law are always regaling me with yesteryear tales of Bolton's ONE and ONLY Kebab House called...(answers on a postcard to usual address)

I can also remember when there was only about 5-6 places in all Bolton that delivered Pizza, fecking hell, sometimes I get 5-6 different Pizza menus through the door A WEEK these days.

On a different note, it's not long since booking flights meant a trip upstairs to some dingy office up a back alley.

pizzaland was on a corner

same block as early learning centre and (is it) samuels

but not the phone shop - other corner but still on deansgate

think it was selling shoes last time i cared to look

pizzaland wasn't privately owned

it was a chain...which in the end became merged into pizzahut - only know cos i wikid it a couple of weeks back

It was Wimpy before it was Pizzaland wasn't it? Previously Wimpy was in the corner of the town hall square.

McDonalds is evil as I liked Wimpy when I was a kid.
