hope some others on here had the pleasure of his company at Wembley......what a guy, he was sat at the side of me in his original 1977 number 8 umbro shirt,(most ex players would want to be in some swishy executive club in a fancy suit) his son and grandson both had their faces painted in Wanderers colours...absolute class from one of our all time greats, he is still living in Mansfield and working for the water board, remember seeing him at Cardiff both times, and lots of home games over the years...a Wanderer for life

He still holds the record of being the last BWFC apprentice/trainee attacker (excludes Julian Darby) to score more than 10 league goals in a season.

He must have kept himself fit to get into the shirt ftom 77, was a great servant for BWFC always remember he always jumped early when the ball was coming to him it would usually hit him on top of the head, other than that he was a cracking player for us and from memory think he had 3 stints at the club, seem to remember him playing on loan for us at Leeds and we put in a good performance, we were all hoping he was going to come back permanently, howver for some reason it did not happen, which was a great shame.

Whatmore was just half a yard short of pace otherwise he would have been one of the great strikers. Roy Greaves was in our block at Wembley.

Good to see that a lot of ex players with no connections to the town, still have connections here. Somehow I cant see this happening with the modern day millionairres though

He is a great, the Worthington Whatmore partnership up front was special. I knew him in his early days here he boarded at my mates house with another player called Paul Holding who didnt make it here. He offered to take my autograph book to the club and got it signed by all the players of the time, it was 1973,big sams in there as is Peter Reid Gary Jones etc.

my recollection is that there wasn't really a worthy/whatmore partnership

whatmore and steve taylor in the goal charts with a couple of chelsea players is my memory - all of em getting 20

whatmore was forced to play in midfield in division 1, behind gowling and frank

Worthy did not play the full season, the 11 goals in 12 games was crucial in our promtion, he pushed us over the finishing line. One word sums Worthys football ability. "Class"

Neil Whatmore was absolutely brilliant for us. The absolute epitome of the Ian Greaves era.

I've got a DVD of a match Bolton played at West Ham in 1980/81 season after Greaves had been sacked and Bolton relegated back to Division 2.

West Ham murdered us really - though the final score was only 2-1.

Neil's performance shines out in that footage - total effort and dedication to the cause. He had a goal disallowed just before half-time and had a look of sheer disappointment and frustration all over his face - the kind any fan would have.

Can't speak highly enough of Neil Whatmore.

I remember Whatmores debut at Swansea, he scored three . Great servant for the club, like someone said on here, he did lack a bit of pace otherwise he`d have been a super player.
