Old Air Raid Shelters.

Featured Replies

Growing up in an environment of industrial decay in the 60s, nowt was better than playing in the old shelters with war games round the old mills and pits. Came in handy a few years later for a fumble with a wench.

There is one in the woods near me, think its been sealed shut now though.

try 28 days later, brill website for that type of thing

Use to camp near the ones down eagley mills/ cricket club when we were young. Was fucking ace for storing fire wood in.

My nan had one in her back garden up Hag Fowd, it was underground and sealed though so we never got to play in it, it was almost required during WW2, a bomb was dropped into the Laburnham Mill lodge but thankfully failed to explode.

Used to be a maze passing the groping hordes in that fucking shelter in bongs.

There used to be one behind Kearsley Legion but its now covered by "Social Housing"

I reckon the percentage of blokes who shot their first bolt by female hand in an old air raid shelter would be fairly high.

Surprising the walls don't look more whitewashed.

Is it a shelter or a storm culvert? seems a bit wet to be much use as a shelter.

I shot my first couple of dozen bolts in the old air shelter in Salford.

Maybe converted to a culvert, or being left to the elements for many a year, the humidity will shoot up if damp course is breached.

I never bothered about the humidity when a girl was tossing me off.

Remember as a kid a few of us went in some owd shelters, they stunk to fuck.

But low and behold we found some money, all tanners, thowt it was christmas, spent it it all on Bangers and Fireworks.

First house we ever owned, had one in the back yard, up Daubhill.

There was one in Radcliffe everyone used to call the old

air raid shelter. Wether it was

or not I'm not sure.

The 'old air raid shelter' eh? Radcliffe has a well deserved reputation for inventiveness :D

Tickled me that has.

I think I rode down there a few times on my bike as a kid when I lived near the Sparking Clog. Somewhere behing the Asda if I remember right. Never shot my load there though.

There used to be 2 in our street in Little Hulton (Seddon Street) one on the spare ground in the middle of the street and one in the mill yard. As kids we managed to 'break in' to both of them and the one in the mill yard had been left exactly as it was during the war complete with a bucket that had been used as a toilet. Not sure how many times it had been used as I doubt Adolf had much interest in L/H. With all the building work going on in the late 50's and early 60's, L/H was a great place to be as a kid.

How can you tell whether or not there's a war going on in L/H?

The locals are issued with more food than normal :-)
