Reminds me of Steve Harper, but probably not as extreme! Played second fiddle to Shay Given for all that time, Given leaves. Harper will finally be number one now surely? No, some young Dutch lad gets the nod.

 

Im sure he joined them in the earlyish 90's?

According to wiki he has played 35 games since 2007. And i wonder how many of them were off the bench?

tbf, it's a bit harsh as he's a goalkeeper and there's only room for one goalkeeper in a starting XI. If your manager thinks someone else is better than you, but you're better than the others at the club then you have to just sit on the bench week in, week out.

 

If the first choice 'keeper never gets injured then what can you do? You can't go out on loan as your manager wants you on that bench in case of a red card or an injury.

Harper became first choice, but got injured.

 

Krul played so well that Harper couldn't get back in.
