Ben Der Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 messi is the best player i have ever seen, my dad agrees and so does my grandad. i think one day he will be universally accepted as the greatest player ever, he needs to do it at international level first though I dont see why he does though, it makes up a small percentage of his playing career, the fact he does what he does week in week out at Barca is enough for me. Also if you watch spanish football they always try and kick the shit out of him but he is just too quick for them. he isnt the greatest yet but if he stays fit he will be in 5 years time. Quote

Traf Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Maradona was basically assaulted from first whistle to last by Claudio Gentile (nicknamed 'Gaddaffi'), regardless of whether he was actually had the ball or not. quite right. Cheating cunt. Quote
Didledee Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 cant be arsed Is it because you have far too much to say, that it would take you all day to post, if you think Higuain is better than Messi, then I suggest you leave football alone and stare out the window in your deluded little world lmao. Okay say C.Ronaldo is better, but Higuain, he's not even the best striker in the world. As for the Messi at international level, he still contributes, could easily have scored 5 plus sat the last World Cup, but he was stopped by the keepers, he got assists, got a hat trick in his last game for Argentina. People mention Maradona used get kicked a lot etc, I've not misses a minute of Barca, beit live or recorded and he get's some real shit, thankfully his close ball control and speed get's him out of situations where other players could be maimed. Quote
Sweep Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 could easily have scored 5 plus sat the last World Cup, but he was stopped by the keepers, That's just a ridiculous thing to say Quote
Zico Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Maradona would have bagged as many goals as Messi if he'd played in an era when forwards get as much protection as they do now. When Italy played Argentina in the 1982 World Cup, Maradona was basically assaulted from first whistle to last by Claudio Gentile (nicknamed 'Gaddaffi'), regardless of whether he was actually had the ball or not. a lad I know has worked on a photoshoot with him in Barcelona, day or so after a match, said there was not much too him, dead skinny and that but was covered from head to toe in bruises from his last game - protection may have changed but he still gets booted all over the park, when they can catch him Quote
Walkden26 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Incredible fromMessi. In regards to Pele - Maradona once referred to him as a FIFA cock sucker and I think he hit the nail on the head. Quote
SpiritofBurnden Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 In regards to Pele - Maradona once referred to him as a FIFA cock sucker and I think he hit the nail on the head. Maradona once said that Pele lost his virginity to a goat. Quote
MickyD Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 That's just a ridiculous thing to say No it's not, what if the keeper had been sent off and all the subs used up and a midfielder had gone in goals and saved a really powerful shot five times and . . . Yes, fucking ridiculous Diddles. Quote
SpiritofBurnden Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 protection may have changed but he still gets booted all over the park, when they can catch him Maybe so but it's nothing like it was back then. The defender who broke Maradona's ankle when he played for Barcelona would have been banned for life now. Back then, he just bragged about keeping the boot he did it with as a trophy! Quote
Garrp Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 there is the same debate every few years proper ronaldo, zidane, ronaldinho they were all put up as the best players ever at the time now them three have been forgotten about the same will happen again in a few years time Messi has an awful lot going for him to help him out Quote

Messi has an awful lot going for him to help him out?? football is a team game, no player would be a great without other players, yes both Messi and Maradona have scored great solo goals, but without other players, you wouldn't get opposition running elsewhere covering other players runs, which create space. As for my goalkeeping thing, I'm just saying it wasn't like Messi didn't play well, it was just he didn't beat the keeper, he still found himself in goalscoring positions like he does for Barca, but he didn't manage to score at that time, Argentina v Nigeria, Messi could have scored 5 +, he didn't. doesn't mean he didn't perform, but because he scores for fun, I think people judge him on just his goals at times. His overall game was excellent, though I do agree, he does it more for club. Quote
enzo gambaro Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 The defender who broke Maradona's ankle when he played for Barcelona I don't understand why you didn't just type Andoni Goikoetxea Olaskoaga! Quote

DazBob Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 proper ronaldo, zidane, ronaldinho they were all put up as the best players ever at the time Were they really? I don't remember that. They were quite rightly being lauded as the best players in the world at the time. Maybe even the best players of their generation. Up until now though I think it's mainly been a Pele vs Maradona argument as to who is the greatest of all time. Messi has now, IMO, quite rightly entered the frame and deserves to be considered. Still Maradona for me atm though. Quote
Didledee Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I think the Ronaldinho at Barca was deservedly known as one of the greatest ever. Quote
Traf Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Greatest at what? Eating an apple through a tennis racket? Quote
L/H White Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Boring this thread. Can we not talk about the Japanese Messi, Ryo Miyaichi? Quote

Sweep Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 proper ronaldo, zidane, ronaldinho they were all put up as the best players ever at the time I don't think they've been forgotten about, but I agree they were being talked about as "greatest ever players" at certain points in their career. I think Luis Figo also falls into this bracket as well. All of them greatplayers, but not a patch on Messi in my opinion Quote

I think Luis Figo also falls into this bracket as well. All of them greatplayers, but not a patch on Messi in my opinion That was my point. I don't mean they have been forgotten about altogether, I mean forgotten about as the best ever. I argued with mates for years over Maradonna v Zidane, now he isnt even mentioned in the argument. It was the same with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and as CWP said, Figo. If anyone disputes that then you're a plantpot. Quote
