How Many Points Are Needed?

It is looking like we could need at least 38 points, possibly 40, the way all the teams (except wolves) are playing at the bottom.

I thought 35 would be enough a few weeks ago but not now.

Arsenal and Liverpool can't be trusted, wouldn't surprise me if Man City are unreliable as well now that the league has all but gone for them.

I just hope we don't run out of steam in the last 8 games as we are on a great little run.

Three wins from those should do it!!

No idea

Just more than 3 others

Wolves have gone

Qpr will not keep this up against the rest of the top 5

Wigan are the surprising danger IMO

Rovers are back in it but have a bit of momentum

Rovers won't get 38 points.

Why? They have the most potent attack of the teams at the bottom.

Hoilett is a gem, would have been great to nick him in January even though it was never a realistic possibility.

38pts should be enough.

Villa need to be careful, but they should be able to collect another 5 points between now and the end of the season and with their superior goal difference they should be OK. I'm not really even sure that we can look at who these teams have to play between now and the end of the season, I don't think there is much relevance in that now, especially if you look at some of the xrazybresultsbin recent weeks.

So as we have suspected for a while we are looking at Wigan, Blackburn and QPR as our rivals. I think including ourselves, all those other 3 teams are capable of getting the points required. It will probably come down to strong leadership and bottle. Do we have that? I certainly hope so!

I'm hoping that Wigan run out of steam. I am also hoping that Blackburn start to stumble a bit as I believe that QPR have the players to get the extra points they will need.

Of the teams at the bottom, I would say that on paper that QPR have the most potent attack.......although you win not on paper

beat fulham, swansea, west brom at home and draw at villa.

job done

They have Man U, Tottenham, Liverpool & Chelsea. Their away form is fairly shit (one win away all season).

Their other games are

WBA (A)

Swansea (A)

Norwich

Wigan

As said previously, no one wins 'on paper' or QPR would be mid-table easily. Blackburn have a lot of internal strife, I don't reckon they have the bottle to keep it up and hopefully United will give them a good hiding on Monday and kick start the freefall.

In 2003 West ham,Bolton, and Fulham all went on a winning streak, this raised the bar as to how many points were needed to stay up - so West Ham were relegated on 42 points.

If QPR,Wigan, and ourselves keep winning a similar situation could emerge.

Surely QPR can't sustain their run against the teams coming up?

I think Wiggin will falter when you look at their remaining fixtures - only one of those looks remotely winnable.

They`ve cetainly rode their luck in recent games, a goal line decision in our favour against QPR, Blackburns penalty that was not given, and yesterdays penalty to bring us back into the game all makes up for some really poor luck with injuries and a most difficult early fixture list. Long may it continue.

On paper I would agree with you but Liverpool and Stoke has just gifted them 6 points.

Their next four games look very much like zero points Chelsea A; Man U H; Arsenal A; Fulham A. Could pick up maximum from the last three games though.

I'd say if we get 38 we'll stay up.

Wigan's have a really tough April, Blackburn's run in slightly easier than Wigan's, QPR's awful.

Significant that QPR and Blackburn have very tough last day fixtures (City and Chelsea), whereas Wigan play Wolves at home. Second last day of the season is Blackburn v Wigan which will be a real shitfest. God knows what result we'll be wanting from that one!

Don't worry about other teams our destiny is in our own hands....

Correct.

IF we drop into the bottom 3 again then we start looking praying for others to mess up. Right now were in the driving seat!

Destiny in our own hands... mmmmmmmmmmmm

How many times do we seem to fuck it up when this is the case.

Villa have a difficult run of fixtures before we play them on April 24 including Liverpool (A), United (A) and Sunderland (H) - the return of Martin O'Neill. Their manager is not well liked and it should be remembered that he's the guy who oversaw Birmingham dropping like a stone in to the bottom three late last season.

If someone had told me that we'd win the last 3 games and only be a point above relegation zone i'd have thought them to be a magic mushroom abuser!

It just shows how tight it's gonna be and how we cant rely on the likes of Liverpool to do us any favours. Like some have said it's in our own hands now and confidence should be high.

Would like to agree with you there Gonzo but I just don't know. 2 wins and a draw could do it but then again we might need 4?

Beat Villa though (other results hopefully being bad for them) and I think they're gonna be right in it.

QPR Blackburn and Wigan could well get another 9 - 10 more points each so looking at worst case I would say that 39 points WILL be enough and likely to be about 36 will make it. 3 wins and a draw and we will be reet

At the start of the season 58 points are needed to guarantee safety. As the season develops the safety line drops, usually to below 38. As of now, for absolute safety not depending on other results, the target is 49 points.

In reality the required figure will fall further as is likely to end up at 36 to 38, as usual.

Villa are clearly in the mix, and West Brom have been on holiday for 2 weeks now.

Liverpool appear safe on 42, but if they lose at home to Villa and Albion, where will their next point come from?

In 1909 (with only 2 points for a win and only 2 teams relegated) Liverpool were fourth (of 20) with 9 games to go.

They played the last match of the season away to the champions (Newcastle!!!) needing a point to escape relegation, and won by the only goal against a jaded team who had played at Blackburn, Villa and Stamford Bridge in the previous 6 days. So ManCity went down without ever having been in a relegation spot all season.

I would piss myself with laughtwe if Liverpool got dragged down there.

Wolves Wigan and QPR to go down for me, unless the Dingles get a proper stuffing tomorrow in which case they are right back in it.

Still think we have got the 'best' run in and I think 37/38 points should see us through in 16th.

At the turn of the year we were dead and buried, the fact that we are in control of our own destiny is hard to believe. we need to keep our foot on the gas,get the reebok bouncing for the 4 remaining home games, no reason we can nt win all 4. don t think i could handle going to stoke needing a result.
