i must admit,my support for england has subsided slightly,pretty much tied in with i never go anymore,when i was young and had money to burn i racked a good few home games in one belter away...so was up for all games.but i definantly still do give a shit.

 

i wont miss a game,and will give it my all in the euros (my all being getting bladderd in the pub and singing xenophobic england songs )

It's the Players. I find it difficult to cheer on the likes of John Terry, Lampard, Gerrard or any if those overpaid and under performing Golden Generation divs.

I went to my first England away day in Rome 1997 and caught the England bug. Had many a great trip and met some good friends from different clubs around the country.

 

For me, it all went wrong after Russia. I got back from Skopje watching the whites, lingered at Manc airport waiting for the first train back to Piccadilly then went to London to get a visa from the Russian embassy. Due to time constraints and a postal strike, I couldn't do it any other way.

 

Spent a fortune on flights and hotels to watch a shit performance from a bunch of dis-interested players. Only Gerrard had the balls to come over and applaud the fans who were venting their anger at them.

 

To make things worse, I missed my flight home and had to pay ?605 to fly back first class again (no cattle class left). Never been to an England game since - home or away

Steve Mclaren. Cunt of a man my interest in the national team declined when he failed to get us to qualify.

 

No apparent passion from players many don't seem to be bothered.

When New players get given a chance the media and other fans rip these players apart........which send us back to square 1, with selecting old failures.

It's ok watching them at tournies even though we know nothing is going to come out of it. At least there is a build up of atmosphere.

 

The rest of it is pointless wank. Selecting of players based on the Club they play for rather than merit. Every year there seems to be the farce where a player has been exceptional and ignored, moves to a big Club and after 1 or 2 games suddenly has an England career.

 

The managerial choices are farcical as well. How can a bloke who can hardly speak English (Capello) lead a team?

My feelings are pretty similar to Gonzo's: football in general is so sterile nowadays, international football even more so.

High ticket & travel prices coupled with showbiz superstar players I can't identify with, playing in stadia full of corporate wankers

Regardless of who is playing for England, I'll cheer the team on whoever they're playing, whether it's in the World Cup or a friendly.

 

Of course there are players in the team who I dislike intensely ... but when they're wearing the England shirt that gets put to one side. Whether they're cunts or not, they're English and they're out there on the pitch representing England.

 

Watching England in tournaments in the pub with your mates who are United and Citeh fans is the only time you get to sit with them and all cheer the same team on. Ultimately it always ends in disappointment but they're good times. Everyone in the boozer standing and singing the anthem together before the match all sharing the same hopes. It doesn't happen too often that. We should savour it.

 

Would I rather England have success than BWFC though? Not a chance. BWFC always comes first.

Last yera in Montenegro I stayed in the bar with the locals and let a mate have my ticket, I am off to Norway at the ned of the month, I refused to pay ?65 for a friendly, I'll stay in the [expensive] pub. I have trips booked upt o November for the Euro's and next qualifiers.

I have loved watching England in all of the big cups over the years as there is usually alot of good banter and lots of beer to be drank.

Cant stand the hype that goes with the national team. Media thing really puts me off the amount of shite talked leading up to a tournament. I think they though more and more people are accepting our level as bog average and not favourites.

Also despise flags hung from windows and on cars when a tournament comes round and ridiculous things in newspapers like cut out masks of beckham or rub a picture of rooneys foot to make it better. Horrendous.

 

Football wise i tend to watch all major tournaments but the qualifiers and friendlies i have no interest at all. I'll watch it from a neutral football fan point too, dont care about England.

Even though we almost always fail, before a big tournament the excitement is still there, I'm looking forward to it, last time we were in the Euro's, we were the best side in it until Rooney got injured and Postiga equalised for Portugal, hopefully when we play France, we don't see a two minute smash and grab from the French.
