May 7, 201214 yr hey, ive got the roadrunner video of this match. what a pile of shite that team was. absolutely shocking haha
May 7, 201214 yr The closest comparison in terms of what lies ahead on Sunday is Sheff Weds at home on May 8, 1982. We had to win our last game and hope somebody else (Cardiff in this case) would fuck up. We won, they lost in a game re-arranged for the midweek after the official end of the season, we stayed in Division 2. Shame that game isn't available on DVD so that the constant abuse heaped on Wednesday's winger Terry Curran by the Manny Road terrace could be heard!
May 7, 201214 yr I was there along with twenty odd thousand more who also claim to have been there. I wasn't there. I was in the 2,902 though...
May 7, 201214 yr One of the first games i remember goin to that! Didn't we need a few results to go for us? I can still see folk carryin the cross bar round after the game! It's funny, Id have dreamed of seein us play in the championship (2nd div) then. We really have come a long way. Sadly, im pretty resigned to us droppin now and stormin the league next year. A win next week would seem like a dream. God, i want this season over.
May 7, 201214 yr We needed I think Torquay and Scunthorpe to draw. They were playing one another, either won then they went up. We were fucking lucky that day.

May 7, 201214 yr This is well weird , last night I was out for a few beers with my mate who happens to be a Norwich fan but came to most of the games in the 80s . We were just chatting about games when the Wrexham game came up , we both agreed that the atmosphere was brilliant and now this get posted . Well strange
May 7, 201214 yr Went to that game in an Austin Princess that managed to make it to Wrexham, and about 3 miles of the way back. As far as I know the car was abandoned there and then, and never heard of again, as we hitched lifts back.
May 7, 201214 yr Mate's light blue Vauxhall Chevette from Reading, 50mph max and got there just as big gates opened for a freebie about 10 mins before kick off. Caught by an alsation on the fence after the pitch invasion. Thrown out but copper told me how to get back in. No idea what happened after. Happy days!
May 7, 201214 yr I have the Roadrunner vhs too. If memory serves we had 1 game to go and Torquay had 2 games left. Torquay only needed one point from the 2 games to go up. They got beat at home to Burnley midweek for their game in hand then got beat away to Scunthorpe 2-0, we beat Wrexham. Burnley were at the bottom and the Scunthorpe win put Scunny in the play-offs. Begged me dad to take me to Wrexham but he said no as we wouldnt ever do it and it would have meant closing the corner shop we had which to be fair he couldnt afford to do. The guilt made him go out and buy me the Roadrunner game on tape. At the end of the match on the tape Dave travels back on the players coach. Roadrunner had a bleep machine but each bleep lasted about 20 seconds and was timed so badly that nearly every word except the swear words were bleeped out. Edited May 7, 201214 yr by waddy256
May 8, 201214 yr I've got Wrexham on video together with the 2-1 win at Orient over easter. I went to Burnley in the midweek before Wrexham, Burnley won 1-0 with Shaun McGrory scoring the winner. Scunny won 2-1 at Torquay too on the final day, if we had cocked up and drawn Scunny would have gone up. Thought we had blown our chances though when J.T got sent off. Wrexham was a great day out

May 8, 201214 yr Yes, thats the one - I remember a few whites being there. Crap game but I didn't care in the end

May 8, 201214 yr Pretty sure I was at the Racecourse Ground twice that season, as we drew them away int FA Cup. Was in the Main Stand, above the over flow paddock we were given, so got a great view when the players came out into the Directors box, to thank the fans ont pitch for their support.
May 8, 201214 yr I wasn't there, but saw the whole squad out celebrating that night at the snooker club on Manchester Road. How times have changed eh?

Correct, it was the 2nd round we beat them in - then we went off to the 'battle of Barnsley' in the 3rd round. That was rough as they come
May 8, 201214 yr Went on the service train from Manc Victoria and had a good few drinks in Chester before getting the train to Wrexham. After the game a football special was laid on for a direct train to Bolton.
I know it was promotion not relegation.....but not many people thought we would do it.
