Sweep Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 apart from the obvious, jessica ennis and them cyclist fellas...who else is in line for a medal? I'll be watching as much of it as I can For gold medals: Mo Farah has a good chance of a couple (5000M and 10000M I think) Rebecca Adlington in swimming We'll get some sailing ones as well (Ben Ainslee I think he's called) Cavendish will get gold tomorrow in the road race Wiggins will piss the time trial Other cyclists will win golds as well Quote
Pablo Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Well looking forward to it, and my kids love it. They love to copy the sports they see, and will have races round the garden and round the East wing of our house. Love it. Quote

DazBob Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) I thought and hoped I'd get more into it the closer it got ... but I'm still really not arsed. I'll watch the ceremony tonight just as a I'm intrigued to see what Danny Boyle has put together. As for the events, I really can;t get excited about it. I'll watch the track and field stuff if I'm in and there's nothing else on. I used to love Olympics, Commowealth Games, World Championships, etc when I was a kid. There used to be so many 'big name' athletes. Half of the buzz about it was big names going up against big names. There were big rivalries too. Then there was the razzamatazz of the US names such as Lewis, Moses, Flo-Jo, etc. ... but nowadays I can probably name all the athletes I know of on my fingers. Sweep Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Remarkable fact about Ennis: she has NEVER competed in Greater London. I would have thought she must have competed at Crystal Palace once in her career, if she hasn't, then that is pretty remarkable Quote

Are you letting them watch the Dressage? - if so, you'll have to send your butler to get the horses out of the paddock and prepared in good time Quote

MalcolmW Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I would have thought she must have competed at Crystal Palace once in her career, if she hasn't, then that is pretty remarkable No. I didn't believe it when I first read it but it is true (look her record up on Power of 10).. Bear in mind that Birmingham has been the HQ of UK Athletics during her career. Crystal Palace hosts a couple of spectaculars each year, but bear in mind she is a heptathlete first and foremost. She is hardly likely to give up 3 days to run making up a world class hurdles field. Then again, Daley Thompson NEVER did a decathlon in England! Quote
tarian1979 Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 i'll watch bits of most things, primarily cos it will be better than most things on. Athletics though i will try and watch as much as possible and prioritise about anything on the box Quote
Guest bwfcdan Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I think the Olympics are brilliant. Looking forward to watching as much of it as possible over the next 2 weeks. Fact of the day - The Olympic mascots - Depicted from steelworks in Bolton Quote
