Guest bwfcdan Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 GBR won't play again. Great pens from Korea. You don't know that, just like you don't know that LCY would have been picked. I for one enjoyed seeing England and Wales play, I certainly hope they do it again in Rio. Quote
Didledee Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Sturridge missed the vital pen, but so did Ramsey in normal time and Buckland was at fault for their goal. He is atr times greedy and frustrating, but he's a quality player and we'd probably have been relegated without his goals 2 seasons back. Quote
Carlos Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Old Trafford v Brazil for S. Korea. I'd go but my uncle might be there. Quote

MalcolmW Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Back to the heptathlon - The German (Schwartzkopf) was disqualified in the 800m. I think she would have taken silver - certainly a medal - but for that. Don't know when it will get a mention. REINSTATED!! Edited August 4, 2012 by MalcolmW Quote

MickyD Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Diddles, they don't get anything for winning an Olympic medal. Once you've won one though, you'll earn all sorts of money from sponsorship etc. Some of these people have traind all their lives at massive personal expense, and if they win a medal, then fair play to them if they get to milk some sponsorship deals afterwards. In my mind, some of these people are way, way above some of the tossers who play professional football in the Barclays Premier League. They're fairly well looked after in the run-up to being a great athlete too. Companies will fall over each other to provide equipment for the top athletes. Bet Jess Ennis hasn't had to buy a pair of spiked running shoes for a while. It's while the athletes are at a much more junior level that it costs them, or rather their parents, in hard cash for equipment and time to attend meetings. Quote
