no balls Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 i bet if we could turn the clock back, everyone would have turned out to watch the torch being carried through bolton. idle bastards the lot of us Argh but I did get up (albeit a poster on here had to text me to make me) and I saw it in Manchester too and even got a grip of one (albeit it I'd had a few drinkies by then). Clearly I'm not as idle as I thought Quote
MalcolmW Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 i've no idea how it works pointswise, but she's as good as assured it now. only a devon lock style cock-up can stop her Chernova is sixth. She is the only one with a faster 800 best than Ennis, and only marginally so. To get a medal Chernova needs to beat the Ukrainian, Frenchwoman and German by about 3 seconds. This is feasible. To get silver she would also need to beat Skuiyte by 7.5 seconds, which is also feasible. Therefore Chernova should be motivated to lead. Ennis is one lane outside Chernova at the start. Therefore she should have the opportunity to latch onto Chernova when they break from lanes. 2:05.69 would reach 7000 points for Ennis. Quote

frank_spencer Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 How does th'omnium work? 6 races each race your final position is the number of points you are awarded whoever has the lowest score wins Quote
jayjayoghani Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 How does th'omnium work? its just a multi-event discipline, time trial, pursuit, flying lap etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnium#Current_Omnium Quote
miamiwhite Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 If the GB lads win a medal in the footy what will folk get all sanctimonious about then? Why do folk feel the need to use rowers/cyclists doing well at their chosen sport as a chance to lambaste footballers? Yes some of them are twunts but so are folk in every walk of life. these gold medal winning athletes appear to be humbled and overwhelmed by it all and very gracious as well. makes a nice refreshing change from the arrogant footballers who are vastly overpaid and most of whom have no loyalty whatsoever. don't get me wrong though, there are some thoroughly decent footballers out there as well, but most act like they're demi-gods Quote
frank_spencer Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 They're only over paid as folk have decided they are. Their wages are nothing compared to what NBA/NFL players get paid. Or anything like what holywood actors get. Premier league footballers especially those at the big clubs are the best in their field which is a multi billion pound industry. Why shouldn't they get massive wages? Quote

frank_spencer Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Look beyond the headlines and you'll find the majority of em are just normal blokes who have found they're good at kicking a bag of air around and that someone will pay them very very handsomely for that. I don't get why people think that means they should be role models or 'have a heart'. Even massive knobheads (if you believe their media images) like Bellamy and Adebayor do massive ammounts for charity even SKD has his KiDs of Bolton thing. I just don't buy this all footballers are awful people image that seems to be popular at the moment. For every John Terry and Luis Suarez theres people like Holden and Muamba. And countless others in the middle ground who just get on with things Quote
frank_spencer Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Anyway back to the Olympics. Them Scandies getting to the Badminton final was pretty special to see Quote

pato Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 A commentator on 5 live today was slating footballers bigtime. he said some simply wear the headphones to pretend they can't hear young kids asking for autographs etc. valid point IMO. i agree with you NB, on what they go through to get there. it's true dedication and so much preparation goes on,it's untrue. our dominance is breathtaking and an absolute pleasure to watch i bet if we could turn the clock back, everyone would have turned out to watch the torch being carried through bolton. idle bastards the lot of us Yes and that commentator was Alan Green who wears the same righteous indignation when commetating but the shite he comes out with while commentating is fecking cringeworthy I've listend to him on the drive to work going off on one while I'm screaming at the radio tell me about the match you are being paid to commentate on not your up your own fecking arse opinion Quote
