frank_spencer Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I do think footballers are getting a lot of unfair stick. If a football choked as badly as Adlington, Hansen and Shearer would be calling them out big time. Balding made 1 little comment and then spent the rest of the night apologising and saying how great Adlington is, after a frankly terrible performance. Holy shit mark the date i fear hell has frozen over. I. Agree. With. Maaarsh. He makes some valid points though along side the footballer bashing. Quote
no balls Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Watching the women's boxing. I thought it was me being old fashioned but some of the younger members here at work agree. There's something just not right about it. Quote

I was wondering about Adlington over the weekend. She seemed, well, quite big in comparison to other swimmers, even in the same event? I was reading summat else about the now outlawed hi-tech swimsuits. It was saying that the improvement was more marked in those of a larger physique. Adlington set the WR in a swimsuit so perhaps she benefited more? Its a bit tough to criticise her too much as she seems to be our best swimmer. but she didnt even match her years best time. Quote

We love criticising our best footballers for much less. She'd swam 8'17 and 8'18 this year and looked comfortable. 8'22 in very easy fashion in the heat. Then 8'20 and lots of immediate shoddy excuses in the final. Quote
Guest bwfcdan Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 First gold in show jumping for 60 years, perfect time to do it!! Quote

The True Marple White Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Just bought some tickets for the blind football during the paraolympics going to be absolutely hilarious Quote

MalcolmW Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 To keep up the football links: Iffy Onuora's sister running 200m tonight (heat 2 at 19:28). Likely to scrape through to semis - very unlikely to reach the final. Quote
Alf Hartigan Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Not sure who's most impressive, Kenny or Pendleton. Both definitely peaked at right time. Quote
MalcolmW Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 In the discus qualifying this morning Lawrence Okoye was lying 13th (12 to qualify) with one throw remaining. He came 4th. As this suggests he lacks consistency, but could finish anywhere in the final. Quote

maaarsh Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 WW Medal Table ============= Bolton - Gold = 2 Australia - Gold = 1 You seen the yorkies claiming they have 4 golds. Only 1 individual and 3 in team events with 1 yorkshire person present. If we were as insecure as them, I can think of 4 Lancashire golds in cycling alone Quote
maaarsh Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Not sure who's most impressive, Kenny or Pendleton. Both definitely peaked at right time. Pendleton hasn't gone up against anyone of merit yet. Was 3rd best at the world champs (given 1st due to DQs) but has come back much much stronger and now looks good to win. Quote
