What's Mike Bassett doing these days?

I stuck up for Coyle last season but enough is enough that was dia fuckin bolical. We need a change, it ended up feelin like one of those games last season against the big teams when we were never in it but against Burnley, Jesus!

The fact is, if we sell Coyle the likely replacement would be bloody awful like Steve Claridge, Paul Ince, Carlton Palmer etc... Couldn't deal with that. Keep him for the time being, a few games to see if he can turn it around. I really hope he does.

He will need a brain cell to do that.

Didn't West ham lose their opening game last season. No need to panic yet. Games thick and fast and if we can win the next two then all will be cool again.

We ain't west ham though and thy had a manager capable of grinding out results

Our squad is good enough to rip the likes of burnley apart, we just need a structure to our team

Really? As i've said in other pre season posts, a lot on here are deluded that the squad and players are far better than any in the championship and were better than teams who stayed up.

I must have been watching different games last season to a lot of you.

When we were getting great results under Coyle, Davies was playing well in the twilight of his career and Elmander was in the middle of his best spell for us, the midfield of Muamba, Taylor, Holden and Lee were a tight creative outlet, and the defence of Jussi, Ricketts, Knight, Cahill and Robinson were playing to their potential or above their expected level.

Once a player dropped out of that team or whose performance dropped from that in the first 6 months of that season 2010 /2011 the quality dropped.

Lee Davies and Holden will never be the same, Ricketts and Knight have reverted to form and the rest were dropped or have gone.

There is no team spirit, quality or togetherness in the current team, there wasnt last season. The last game at Stoke was pathetic. 10 years given up without a fight against a team on holiday.

Why oh why do you lot think these players are better than others in this division? even if they were (which they are not imo) they are a bunch of individuals!

Get real. The current bwfc are a 9th to 16th Championship side. There is nowt wrong with that though.

I agree. Time to grind out a few 1 nil wins. That will do for starters.

Can you really envisage that?

It's coming to something when the mention of Brian Horton on the radio on the way home got a nod of aproval from me.

At least he kept a player up when we defended set pieces.

another positive was that it was a good cricket match before hand. Funny as fuck as they were bowled out and returned to a mass chorus of "Time to go, time to go-o-o-o-oh, FUCK OFF!"

Our problem is, OC's tactics seem to be, let's not concede, that way we can't lose. Problem is, he's not teaching the basic defending stuff to the defenders.

Hoping to score a goal to win a game is asking a bit much of the current team.

No sticking plaster is going to fix this its a major fracture within the club from top to bottom, Jaaskalinen alluded to it we know there are massive cuts right across the club, I also sense trouble within the squad, no matter what the spin is from the club, bringing Mcginlay over is also another plaster to heal the rifts and factions, for those who think its one game and we are going up will be sadly mistaken the current situation will not result in promotion by top 2 or via the play offs, we are really deep in trouble.

nobody brought mcginlay over

he's on holiday

this is a relatively expensively assembled squad, on good money

we have to be better than we showed today

but, to be fair, the first game of the season is all about fitness

They will be fit by next week then, with day off Wednesday media day Thursday and fun day Friday

you could have a point their, most of the teams in our division played a leaguecup game mid week, which may explain why burnley looked a yard quicker than us. not trying to make excuses but it could be a factor

Wasn't sure which thread to use to post my thoughts... not that it matters cos we don't really need to read em tonight... but posting gives us someone to rant at!

I was hoping the team would have the start of a freshness... I didn't care about the result... I really wanted a performance though!

Riley, Ream, Mills, Alonso defence would have been a nice start

Vela in the middle would have been a nice bonus

Sordell, Afobe should have been a nailed on certainty (given Ngog not being fit)

My heart sank when I saw the team... no progress from last season... has anything been learned?

Then I hear talk of '"we are looking for a reaction on Tuesday" ... Owen WE were looking for a fuckin reaction (to last season)... From YOU!!!!!

I see what you're doing there

Blind optimism = delusion.

Once you have lost the fanatisism in bwfc, you view the games in a different light and remember them with a more analytical eye.

For the fanatics wins are everything, 3 points or a cup win blinds them to the actual performance or competence or their teams.

Bolton are on the slide! This has been slowly happening since SA left. The last two managers are not in the same league as he was. I believe the club will now find itself between championship and 1st division in the next 15 years. We have had a good 20 years.

As much as I hate to admit it - without a Sam Allardyce type miracle I think you may well be right if we don't bounce back this season.

Do you believe it's just a Holiday for Mcginlay? I don't he's supporting Owen Coyle at every opportunity, he would die for a job with BWFC, there is more to Mcginlays visit that just the holiday in my opinion.

i don't know

what i do know is that whatever might be going on, we have backed him to a level that should see better than we're getting

I think someone has stolen your (usually logical) brain Mounts... or you are being brainwashed ... by a halfwit :)

We are a pretty bad football team at the moment but you seem to be subscribing to some extremely dodgy conspiracy theories and believing all the nonesense newspaper stories of dressing room disharmony!

We are just not very good

McGinlay was working on GMR today in Alan Gowling's absence. Make of that what you will.

I would love to see McGinlay back at the club in some sort of capacity regardless of our on field predicament at the moment.

Yeah, weve had a great ride these last few years, punched above our weight, lived beyond our means, gone beyond our wildest dreams, some day it probably had to stop. I get that.

But, in the here and now with the players we have - why do we seem to play without a plan of attack? You can say with most teams that theyre good at doing something; attacking in a certain way, playing to a certain strength and maximising that element of their team - a specific set piece taker, or a winger or a striker with ability. With us, what do we do that you can say we're dangerous and effective at?

I've not seen us look like we have an attacking plan for months now, despite having players that youd expect to be good going forward. Manager's fault for me that,
