January 16, 201313 yr attempting to shift some Christmas (lifetime) binge eating, don't fancy myself as a gym guy or a road runner looking to get myself a bike & a rower if they are reasonably priced, any recommendations?
January 16, 201313 yr Get a normal road bike and a turbo trainer. That way you can get out on your bike when the weather improves!
January 16, 201313 yr Get a real bike and a turbo trainer rather than an exercise bike. Don't bother with a rowing machine; we've got a concept 2 doing a great job as a white elephant. Fucking painful form of exercise. You either go slow and get back ache, or push it and end up hyperventilating, feeling sick. Edit - great minds n all that. Edited January 16, 201313 yr by maaarsh
January 16, 201313 yr Turbo trainer? Is that the thing that you put your back wheel on and use your normal bike as an exercise bike? If so, recommendations please ( preferably cheap!)
January 16, 201313 yr Got a cross trainer after new year. 1 question though, if a bloke at 18 stone does exactly the same time, distance and inensity as a bloke at 9 stone will he burn the same calories or more? I reckon it should be more but this fucker reckons its the same.
January 16, 201313 yr Deathlon do a decent range of turbo trainers. they also do a good entry level road bike at £300
January 16, 201313 yr http://www.wiggle.co.uk/turbo-trainers/ Only brand I can personally vouch for are cycleops, but they're not at the discount range. Excellently built though; my brother's done 1500 hours on it and still performing as new.

January 16, 201313 yr Turbo trainer? Is that the thing that you put your back wheel on and use your normal bike as an exercise bike? If so, recommendations please ( preferably cheap!) i have one of these from decathlon http://www.decathlon.co.uk/satori-pro-t1830-home-trainer--id_8164386.html Beltin bit of kit ,and a very good price too, comes with mat (stops floor getting covered in sweat and marks etc) and front wheel support (gives you a more level ride) , other makes charge a lot extra for these.
January 16, 201313 yr Swimming's a good shout, the new pool in Town does sessions with 25m all 2m depth no kids allowed, the depth also seems to discourage women gossiping and trying not to get their beehive wet. You'll feel the results starting first session and should be good to go again within a day. No aches, pains or pulled muscles etc. For an extra challenge get one of these a kickboard/pull buoy ('leg float') combo, you can then use your legs only, or arms/shoulders in isolation. Another one is to simply start with press-ups and ab crunches - again no kit is needed, no outlay - and you'll start feeling the results almost immediately. Being able to do a couple more reps with every day or so. It's quite rewarding to go from barely being able to do a couple of press-ups poorly - to doing 20-25 with good form and without breaking sweat/getting out of breath - this is do-able within a week or two. A skipping rope is a cheap and quick way of doing cardio around the house...It's another thing where you can go from bumbling about, tripping over like a tit to doing fancy tricks like Rocky Balboa within a couple of weeks. Look on Ebay for a second-hand heavy bag, (preferably with a chain) hang this from a beam or bracket, wrap it in duct tape to prevent seam split. Get some hand wraps and mitts/gloves. I've yet to find a better way to exercise and relieve stress, well, apart from shagging. They're doing chinning bars quite cheaply these days - stick one of these onto the brickwork of your back door - again it's a quickly done thing, I do a set when I'm waiting for the kettle to boil. It's also rewarding to see yourself doing more reps over time and with more ease. The best thing about the above is, all (apart from swimming) are done in and around the house - so no excuses, but, if you fuck it off you've probably spent around £30-£40 all in, if you've looked in the right places. I guarantee you won't fuck the heavy bag off. Sport direct or Decathlon do cheap chinning bars, hand wraps, boxing gloves, skipping ropes and the swimming float. You'll probably replace with better quality if you stick with it. Look on Freecycle for people getting rid of exercise equipment - again there's not outlay lost if you jack it in. Buying shit for hundreds of quid won't guilt-trip you into using it - you'll just have a more expensive, better-looking clothes airer. Edited January 16, 201313 yr by Youri McAnespie
January 16, 201313 yr Another good thing to consider doing is deep breathing exercises. Get the lungs working first. Do three five minute sets a day and you'll see your stamina increase in no time.

January 16, 201313 yr If ya myst buy a turbo trainer, then get a 2nd had one. Waste of money imo, boring as fuck. Get out on the road No, it means I can ride my bike in the dry and watch horse racing at the same time, it will save me loads of time.
January 16, 201313 yr No, it means I can ride my bike in the dry and watch horse racing at the same time, it will save me loads of time. does it feel like your chasing after the burger meat ?
January 17, 201313 yr We've got a CycleOps Magneto Pro. Does the business when its 25cm deep in snow outside. You need plenty of space though. And put a slick tyre on the back or it'll sound like a freight train is trundling past your living room window.
