Used to have one in the 80's bit of a crappy 4.5 inch reflector, too small really for a reflector. It was quite long and unweildy and took ages to set up. Once it was though it was good looking at the moon and planets.

 

Often toyed with the idea of getting one of the computerised modern jobbies that can locate objects for you. Using a good camera with various exposure times would be fun too Too much light pollution around here though.

 

The hubble bit of that link has to convince anyone that there is intelligent life out there, the numbers dictate it.

Trouble is there's a street light right outside my front and  a renovated barn and farmhouse at the back over the field at the back with all night security lamp thingys. They leave em on  all night. The back field has more lux than a night game at the Macron.

Partial solar eclipse tonight, pretty spectacular stuff if you can't sleep.

So as I'm sure you're all aware, we've got sunspot 2192 at the minute, which is as big as fucking Jupiter. It might waz some very large solar flares towards earth. This might make the telly or wireless go wonky for a minute.

It is has exploded. But don't worry because it only exploded with a force one million times greater than all the nuclear weapons on earth put together.

Well it doesn't get here as such, but the X class ones last about an hour

Officials from NASA and Orbital hope to find out in the coming days.
