(v) Acts of participation in a violent revolution in the aforesaid Republic, whereby the accused, injured, damaged, destroyed, rendered useless or unserviceable, put out of action, obstructed, with or endangered:

( the maintenance of law and order;

(d) postal, telephone or telegraph installations;

For these crimes he was sentenced to life in prison, even though the state prosecutor demanded the death penalty.

However the real reason Mandela is seen by many as a terrorist, was because of his actions later on, first while still imprisoned on Robin Island, and second, on the run up to 1994 elections.

The link below was a terrotist attack which was carried out on the explicit orders of Mandela while he was in prison. He later admitted the order came from him personally.

Probably the worst acts of terror under Mandela was the purging of the Zulu Inkatha party in Natal before the elections.
During the run up to the elections in 1994, the two main black parties were the Xhosa (a SA tribe to which Mandela belongs) dominated ANC led by Mandela, and the Zulu Inkatha party. 
As the Zulu´s were the largest tribe in SA, the ANC, who had waged an armed conflict against the white government, were afraid they would lose the elections, so, under the orders of Mandela, the ANC cadres were sent to "persuade" the Zulu´s to support the ANC. 
The only way these animals campaigned for their party was to slaughter the Inkatha supporters. Anyone with allegiance to Inkatha was simply killed and an estimated 50,000 Zulu´s were killed in the most ghastly manner in the 2 years leading up to the elections.
Mainly, rural villages were burned to the ground in the Inkatha areas, and anyone trying to flee from the burning huts was either shot or hacked to death with machetes, men woman and children, as well as live stock. Nothing was spared.
All these killings were done in the name of, and with the blessing of, the ANC and Nelson Mandela, who was the leader of the ANC party.

As stated on Daybreak this morning by one of his biggest supporters - "He didn't do enough when he finally got into power...... he never denounced Robert Mugabe"..... that in itself was criminal.

Surely he should've used his weight and world prominence to end his neighbours sick regime?

South Africa could have very easily been a bloodbath after Apartheid, that it didn't happen is largely down to Mandela.

My take on it is that it's sad that somebody like Nelson Mandela had to exist in the first place. I'll never understand how it felt to be a black youth growing up under apartheid, and hopefully I'll never understand how it feels to have a family member killed in an act of political violence.

 

The outpouring of faux grief is a little hard to take, and there's no doubt in my mind that the majority of people are celebrating what his image has come to stand for rather than what he did or didn't actually do.
