Things You Remember From Games That Nobody Else Seems To

I still to this day swear that Phil Neal spat full in the face of one of our opponents on his debut for us right in front of the paddock. Am I making this up or what?

I'd add 'kill cricket' to the list, but a few obviously do remember that one. Not least er... Kill cricket.

Who remembers the bloke stood on the fence at the front of the away end at Swindon in that semi with Bomber Harris style flying goggles on doing the airplane with Union Jack round his neck?

Who remembers the chalk board above the urinals in the king bill toilets??

Talk of that Swindon game made me watch it again absolutely top day out even tho we lost and the home match is up there as my best ever game.

Don't remember much of the game, was a bit tasty after tho

played brighton in 1978 feb or march, big sam gave away a free kick on the edge of our penalty area, embankment, he booted the ball so hard it went into their net even though  their keeper tried to save it.

Turnstile operators who let you duck under the turnstile without paying when you were a kid.

Or my dad still carrying me in until I was about 12 haha

I fucking do - worst weather I've ever driven in - got as far as Halifax only to hear it was off and then me fan belt went.

The Spurs 6-1 gets oddly ovelooked; chuffed to bits the next day when a local Leicester fan told me their game that night was shite and the biggest cheer of the night was when that result got read out. Was actually 7-1 anyway.

Fucking big rock hard plastic ball - about a yard or two in diameter - made an appearance a good few times on the Paddock way back. Always wondered where the fuck it came from, though if I remember someone on here suggested it was groundsman equipment that kept getting nicked??

Nicky Hunt a bit back away at Pompey - remember him getting booked from the subs bench for booting the ball away or summat. Did he actually play for us that season or was his final yellow card total greater than his appearences??

Beating Plymouth 7-2 and (in the days of one sub) their knackered keeper going up front for the latter part of the game.

Paddock - Sheff Wed fan marrooned on the railings with two mates trying to pull him over and Paddock lot lamping him - including one clodding him with a crash helmet.

Hearing that the 7-0 defeat made a radio Swindon commentator cry on air.

What's never mentioned now is the amount of times we (and many others) sang "you'll never walk alone" - Paddock standard back in the day

Anybody remember John O'Kanes goal from the halfway line at the Priestfield in the 2000-01 season? I can still hear the Gillingham fans singing "2 nil and you facked it ap" as we left the ground.

Burnley playing at Burnden about 1987. Mugs, bricks & miniature spirit bottles ie vodka, Bells whisky etc flying to & fro over the fence.

Small bottle flew over & whacked a young lad on the eye brow cutting a nasty gash in his head. Hated them 6 fingered in breds ever since

His Twitch was a belter too!

Also Mr H's mate brining a giant piece of cheese all the way back from Chelsea away that he'd stolen from a shop.

He then bought it to the next home game and simply held it under his arm as if it was his pride and joy all around Bolton and then at the match, anyone that asked him where he got it were told simply to "fuck off"

I do. Car load of London Whites on M6 in Cheshire when we heard it was off. Just turned round & headed back.

Well, at the next exit anyway.

I remeber Hunt getting booked at home to Pompey for time wasting, by going down injured & the ref thought he was killing the clock. Turned out he'd broke his fibia.

.

Was that Brighton in the cup, if so it took about 8 coppers to get him off that fence.

That was when they introduced a scaffold handrail to separate home and away fans with a larger no-man's-land. The lad in question decided that straying the other side of the scaffold pole wasn't that big a deal. The copper, a lad I'd done my fire service training with in 86 and who'd subsequently left to join the police, was the one who over-reacted. He's since either retired from police due to injury or was kicked out. He was a cock!

My recollection was being stood at the back of the embankment. A lad came in who usually stood with us and produced a few dozen miniature bottles of Bells he'd 'found' and started dishing them out. I would have been around 14 or 15 at the time and not a great whisky lover, consequently mine lasted somewhat longer than most others. As everyone was glugging their bottle, it was decided that when they were done the bottles would be launched in the air to the bottom. (Don't ask, people did silly things without much thought for others then). Anyway, one hit a copper on his helmet and suddenly there are a dozen or so coppers in and around our area looking for Bells Whisky drinkers; of which I was the only person still sipping the fucking horrible stuff.

A copper grabbed me and started forcing me down towards the bottom until a Warby's lad rushed down, grabbed the copper and asked what the issue was. The copper told him I'd thrown a bottle of Bells. The Warby's lad asked how, being as I still had mine in my hand. Copper looked sheepish and pushed me back towards where he'd dragged me with every fucker shouting "Wanker! Wanker!" as he scurried down.

Edit = further recollections

The snowball fight around about 1977/78 season at Oldham. Then everyone started compressing the snowballs into ice balls. Applauded the Oldham keeper as he ran towards us and, as he returned the applause, got a few hundred ice balls hurled towards him.

Swindon away semi-final. A mate had promised me tickets but with about four days to go hadn't come up with the goods. Then  I got a call saying that Graham (remember him?) from the ticket office hd got an extra few hundred. Two of which I got. Got off the coach and wondered why everyone walked in the wrong direction. My tickets were for the home stand. Fucking rough in there it was. I think wifey was about 7 months pregnant with youngest.

Praying for a lights failure in League Cup semi at home to Everton. Half of an embankment floodlight had failed, we wanted the lot to go off.

Pitch invader at Port Vale.

Stoke fans cheering a Bolton win because it stopped Port Vale getting automatic promotion with them.

Three or four nights before THAT Hull City game, filling the away end at Bournemouth for a Tuesday night game.

Special train to Southampton for a Cup replay getting CS gassed at Birmingham new Street.

swapping ends with Wolves at Burnden and same against Chelsea

League cup v Norwich at Burnden. Just before Christmas and bloody freezing and half time the whole paddock started bouncing up and down just to keep warm, looked good on tele later on.

That car with the angry woman in it outside afterwards was cringeworthy but very very funny.

Contents off her boot emptied and rugby ball kicked over a house.
