January 9, 201412 yr If West Ham hadn't scored 2 late goals in their quarter-final against Spurs then they wouldn't have faced this problem. True, but I bet that Spurs away game will be one those who were there will still be talking about long after their current players and manager have left
January 9, 201412 yr I make this 3 votes of confidence now http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25666014
January 9, 201412 yr Reading between the lines, they know that paying off his contract will cost them a fortune, getting in someone else will also cost - as will the war chest they'll have to give that manager (if there's anyone decent around and keen). So it's probably the only realistic option. Stick with him and hope he gets them out of the hole. He might just do that if he can get some players in and/or fit. The ones right now would struggle against us.

January 9, 201412 yr Highest paid English manager in the world apparently. More than Woy Hodgson? Other than that I wouldn't be surprised really as none of the top have English Managers other than Sherwood at Spurs, and he'll not be on a great deal (relatively speaking) yet
January 9, 201412 yr Has it already been mentioned that he's supposedly the 13th highest paid club manager in the world? Now that's pretty staggering.
January 9, 201412 yr Ticket prices for the second leg at the Boleyn Ground are £32-£49. Can't imagine there'll be too many West Ham fans attending that.
January 9, 201412 yr i'd start believing in father christmas if orient got to play west ham in a league game
January 9, 201412 yr Orient used to be a regular fixture in the old Second Division. Bonus points if you know the fixture which took place in the Second Division in 1977/78, which has never happened before or since.

January 9, 201412 yr I've been looking at how Clapton Orient (as they were then known) were elected to the Football League in 1905, whereas West Ham United didn't upgrade until 1920, when the entire top flight of Southern League formed Division 3. The bottom 3 of the 18 clubs in Division 2 faced re-election. In the first instance only Port Vale were retained, with Leeds City (who had played their first season in the West Yorkshire League, but gave precedence to friendlies against Football League clubs rather than fulfilling their league commitments), and Chelsea (who had a ground but no players, never having played a match). Because it was presumably known that these two were going to get in, the Southern League chamions, Bristol Rovers, did not apply, and neither did any of the Southern League Division One teams. Only Clapton Orient, eighth in SL Division Two (one place below West Ham United Reserves broke ranks and applied, and got only one vote. But then, out of the blue, the Football League decided to increase the size of both its divisions from 18 to 20. As a result, Burton United were re-elected and Hull City (who had only played friendlies since being founded the previous year), Stockport County (who had run teams in both the Lancashire Combination and the Midland League) and Clapton Orient all got in. Only Doncaster Rovers, who had been 12 points adrift at the bottom of Division Two, failed to be elected/re-elected. Edited January 9, 201412 yr by MalcolmW
January 9, 201412 yr Angry Terry on Talksport wasn't very happy before I was listening to that earlier and wondering what people did before radio phone-ins. Who did these people rant to? Can you imagine the absolute shit storm that would ensue these days if Spurs just about managed to scrape a last minute equaliser in a Second Division league game with Mansfield? TalkSport would go into meltdown! Edited January 9, 201412 yr by COYW
