bolty58 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 He walked away didn't he? What, in your opinion, should Gartside have done to prevent it? As you only asked for my opinion, Daz, Garty should have eaten some humble pie and convinced Sam that he was doing everything in his power to find more transfer dosh. Whether he achieved it or not is irrelevant. If Sam had been convinced everything possible was being done, I feel sure he would have stayed and we'd all have had a few more Euro trips clocked up by now. I feel very sure we wouldn't have lost out PL status at the very least. Quote

DazBob Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Why should Gartside have had to eat humble pie? Allardyce had been pretty well backed and Eddie dug deep to give him the money for Anelka didn't he? Also, none of us know whether Gartside did or didn't tell Allardyce he was doing the best he could to get him more money. JSL. Ultimately though, Newcastle clearly tapped him up and they would always have been a step up for him and a club that would have far more of a chance of breaking into the top 4, so IMO he would always have left us for them. I have no problem with that. Quote

Carlos Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 You were working in a dugout at a lower league club When I met you I picked you out, I shook you up And turned you around Turned you into someone new Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet Success has been so easy for you But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now And I can put you back down too. I was working in a dugout at a lower league club That much is true But even then I knew I'd find a much better place Either with or without you The five years we have had have been such good at times I still love you But now I think it's time I lived my life on my own I guess it's just what I must do Don't you want me, baby? Don't you want me? Oh! Don't you want me, baby? Don't you want me? Oh! Quote

End of the day he was one of the hottest properties in football that was widely touted for the England job amongst other much clubs than ours. Course he was going to have his head turned,he owed us fuck all. He was backed by the club to the hilt and rightly so,he was damn fucking good at his job. I can't believe folk blame him for leaving, what did you want him to do stay forever? He left us finishing 7th in the premier league after a decade of untold success nobody could have ever dreamed of. i don't know what more you could ask of him. Quote
Zico Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Is that actuall fact or hearsay garrpo? dunno if Sunderland approached, but Newcastle def did before the England job came up and after talks with PG he stayed, with assurances of backing in the transfer market and if the England job came up, which it did, so PG let him do a powerpoint presentation for the FA Quote

I can't believe folk blame him for leaving, what did you want him to do stay forever? He left us finishing 7th in the premier league after a decade of untold success nobody could have ever dreamed of. i don't know what more you could ask of him. Here is how I remember it. I admit I have don't have the best memory so it might be worth someone looking on the internet. It was at the beginning of the season and he kept getting linked with the Sunderland job who were in the championship but had a new consortium and money with Niall Quinn. We all kept saying it wasn't happening 100% He kept getting shorter and shorter in the betting. Now I know that this happens all the time and a lot of the time its bollocks. Just people putting out stories to back and lay but there is a point where this isn't the case, Odds and Money. I'm not talking about skybet going 1/4 after laying £100. I'm talking about big money (tens of thousands) queuing up trying to back it at long odds on, that anyone can see with their own eyes. As I remember it we are talking 1.1 range. There is a point where there is no smoke without fire. Anyway, all the time Gartside was denying it and saying it was a load of bollocks and there was no problem between him, Sam and the board. I remember Gartside saying it was bollocks plenty of times but I don't think Sam ever denied it at the time? Anyway eventually it didn't happen and they got Keane I think. a few years later the Allardyce to Sunderland move was brought back up by someone. I'm not sure if it was Gartside when he eventually did leave for Newcastle or if it was Niall Quinn? does anyone remember? Quote
mannyroad58 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I really don't get how folk get hung up on other folk who leave football clubs for bigger and better offers. It happens in every walk of life and no-one on here would turn down a bigger and better offer it it came their way. Big Sam gave me the best years ever in the 40 years i've been watching my football club, and those days will never ever return in my life time. I travelled all over europe with my mates having a ball, meeting cunts off here at the same time, so for that i thankyou BSA and for all you others who can't appreciate that and are still sulking because he fucked off all those years ago just get a fucking grip, move on and try and turn up this Saturday and get behing the lads Quote
tomski Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 A poster off here can confirm this story I cant remember how though but Allardyce to Sunderland was defo going to happen. Quote

He is the best manager we've had and probably the best manager we will ever have again. That doesn't mean we have to bend over backwards and welcome him back like he's the messiah. Quote
