mannyroad58 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I'll have a guess that there isn't a single Bolton fan on the planet who doesn't agree with all that. He is the best manager we've had and probably the best manager we will ever have again. That doesn't mean we have to bend over backwards and welcome him back like he's the messiah. It's only folk on here who are banging that drum, it will never happen so i don't know what all the fuss is about and if it ever did i will give LW a "reachround" at the bar in the ESL Quote
Carlos Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Since when was he single-handedly responsible for Europe? Surely the players who stepped up, Nolan, Jussi, Hunty et al plus Edwin and Phil for stumping up the cash and resources to get Campo, Djorkaeff, Okocha et al deserve some credit. Only Fat Sam himself would claim all the credit, in the third person "Fat Sam got Bolton into Europe for the first time, you know, Fat Sam did". Quote

Also no need for all this "Gartside should've eaten humble pie and made him stay" bollocks. Quote

passmosster Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 How would you feel if you were in Eddie's shoes and were asked to stump up cash for a transfer and found that some of it ended up going to the manager's son unbeknown to you? For that reason alone BSA coming back is a nonstarter. Quote
DazBob Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 anyway, is their next game on the idiots lantern? It's on Sky tonight. They're going to get royally bummed again. I'm reckoning by more than Forest could put past them. Cardiff at the weekend will be seen as a far more important game. Quote

Zico Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Here is how I remember it. I admit I have don't have the best memory so it might be worth someone looking on the internet. It was at the beginning of the season and he kept getting linked with the Sunderland job who were in the championship but had a new consortium and money with Niall Quinn. We all kept saying it wasn't happening 100% He kept getting shorter and shorter in the betting. Now I know that this happens all the time and a lot of the time its bollocks. Just people putting out stories to back and lay but there is a point where this isn't the case, Odds and Money. I'm not talking about skybet going 1/4 after laying £100. I'm talking about big money (tens of thousands) queuing up trying to back it at long odds on, that anyone can see with their own eyes. As I remember it we are talking 1.1 range. There is a point where there is no smoke without fire. Anyway, all the time Gartside was denying it and saying it was a load of bollocks and there was no problem between him, Sam and the board. I remember Gartside saying it was bollocks plenty of times but I don't think Sam ever denied it at the time? Anyway eventually it didn't happen and they got Keane I think. a few years later the Allardyce to Sunderland move was brought back up by someone. I'm not sure if it was Gartside when he eventually did leave for Newcastle or if it was Niall Quinn? does anyone remember? July 2006 http://www.totalfootballforums.com/forums/topic/13036-allardyce-wont-be-sunderland-manager/ "Bolton say they have received no approach for coach Sam Allardyce" " Media reports suggest that Allardyce, who still has four years left on his 10-year contract at Bolton, is one of the names being considered by incoming Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn" "However, Allardyce's agent Mark Curtis added: "Sam won't be going to Sunderland." " August 2006 http://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/aug/24/newsstory.sport11 "Quinn, who bought Sunderland with Drumaville in the summer, had taken the position of manager reluctantly, having allegedly approached O'Neill and Allardyce" December 2008 http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/61205/Keano-quit-by-text "Before Keane’s appointment in August 2006, Quinn approached Allardyce, who played for the club during his playing career." I doubt he considered it or was close to leaving given where Sunderland where, but this article should certainly keep the debate going... http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-454451/I-quit-Bolton-I-need-club-I-win-trophies.html "I quit Bolton because I need to be at a club where I can win trophies" Quote
