January 23, 201412 yr I know it's not correct to mention it, but me mum always told me to save by putting a penny in the nigger. I found it fascinating by it's arm and placing the coin in his mouth. We later referred to him as Sammy. May have a look to check their current value. called a "Jolly Negro", and there is still quite a few of them around...

January 23, 201412 yr get a pic on vintage ones $150/$200 Some are going for quite a bit more than that on eBay
January 23, 201412 yr All things of the past. Thank fuck they are exactly that. Because ?? FFS get s grip. You'll be banning Sindy Dolls next because they're sexist
January 23, 201412 yr I'm not sure how this whole 'being offended' thing works - but I'm pretty sure the issue of offence is decided by the potentially offended parties, hence Sindy dolls being deemed sexist would depend on a woman's viewpoint, golliwogs being deemed racist or not would be decided by a black person. We, as white men, don't have much say in the matter.

January 23, 201412 yr We were poor in our house, it was toys or fruit, so we had pieces of fruit with faces drawn on, so we could play with then eat... Instead of He-Man I had Banana-Man. Instead of Eagle-Eye Action Man I had Eagle-Eye Cherries. And instead of Big Trak I had an apple in a box, with 'Big-Trak - Mission Accomplished Playset' wrote on the box in felt-tip. January 23, 201412 yr Because ?? FFS get s grip. You'll be banning Sindy Dolls next because they're sexist Hardly the same is it. I actually meant the whole thing of golliwogs, colours of paint being called nigger brown and such like. I'm just saying I'm glad all that shit is gone as it all,no matter how petty it may seem, holds racist overtones. If you are so desperate to keep hold of the whole hilarious golliwog thing then crack on pal,I'm sure you will have hours of fun with your miniature golliwog keyring. Maybe even dig out an old jar of Robertsons so you can all sit round and have a jolly good chortle at that.
January 23, 201412 yr Author Sindy dolls were shit. I had an eagle eye action man. did you shove it up you little lady garden bet is eagle eyes where thinking what a big cave this is

Maybe even dig out an old jar of Robertsons so you can all sit round and have a jolly good chortle at that. They reckon' the Golliwog was modelled after this caricature, from Jim Crow era America, that of a free Northern black who'd gotten himself a bit too big for his britches and no longer 'knew his place'... There's potted history (in the link below) of some of the origins of some the stuff some might consider 'harmless', you can understand why some, especially African-Americans, don't see it that way. http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/coon/ Worth a read, even if you scan it... Maybe even dig out an old jar of Robertsons so you can all sit round and have a jolly good chortle at that. I seem to recall that when there were protests about the use of the golliwog in Robertson's advertising the firm initially resisted and talked about their history. Someone obviously persuaded them otherwise and they dropped it forever. If they hadn't done so, protests would have continued. They accepted that they couldn't defend what had become indefensible.

January 23, 201412 yr You are one silvered tongued devil Mr Whittle Or alternatively, depending on your point of view, a fucking freak who is unable to interact with normal women without making them gip severely.
January 23, 201412 yr Author Or alternatively, depending on your point of view, a fucking freak who is unable to interact with normal women without making them gip severely. sorry
January 23, 201412 yr When I had one it was a money box not a symbol of white supremacy. Similarly collecting Robertson's golliwogs was to get the metal badges. All the kids had them and probably didn't know black men existed.
January 23, 201412 yr The darkie brand toothpaste was another one from years ago I think they call it darlie now, instead of a darkie it has a picture of a honkey
January 23, 201412 yr I used to collect badges as a kid too, I got suspended when I took them into school for a talk in English class - hypersensitive PC brigade loony left gone mad lot they were...I mean, what's up with these?
January 23, 201412 yr Vintage golly's, sambo money boxes etc are interesting as part of our cultural history. Making them today would just be bad taste. It's not hard to understand but over-sensitive types on both sides of the equation can't get their heads around it.
January 23, 201412 yr Used to endure the Black and White Minstrel's Show on the telly when i was a kid when we only had two channels to choose from and i was bored out my box.
January 23, 201412 yr They have a brand of cheese in Australia called Coon. Must admit I did a double take the first time I saw it on the shelf.
