All this name calling, cyber bullying et al pees me right off. We have friends who are black, noel don't give a fuck what they call him and neither does Babs. When we go for a pint he does get a few strange looks but he just laughs at them, sometimes he's serious but poking fun when he confronts them. Their faces are a picture.

All these do gooders saying we cannot do this and that want flogging. I always take the piss out him when I order a dark beer, he says to me he's having a white one. This is how it should be, good banter without intention to harm.

What's the problem then? Nobody is spoiling your banter.

Wonder If any of you would go up to a couple of our quite well known Bolton lads and call them a black bastard??

All good banter when your getting your face smashed in I hope.

most of the well known black Bolton lads I know are the worst for name calling!!

The orange bastard is right.

Does anyone know Neville from Weshowfen?

I dont see any reason why I would just go up to them and call them a Black bastard anyway

Banter between friends is allowed as you're friends.

In the same way as if you call your mate a cunt it's taken with a laugh and if some randomer says it they're likely to get a thump.

There's a pub / restaurant in Prestbury called The Black Boy.

A plant/bush here. Owners char the trunk and you end up with a good looking jet black thing with a sort of green fro. Decent sized things - fuckers when they catch fire. Full of resin.

Anyway, the PC crowd down here have acted. We can't call the Black Boys any more (even though they have been called that for over 2 centuries at least). We have to call them 'Grass Plants'. Fuck off. Just fuck off.

Social Engineering has finally hit Australia!

Be them stick inventors sticking their petrol sniffing beaks where they're not wanted.

Because "ugly lanky ginger cunt" isn't a race.

you cant use that word.  that's our word!

Sums up my point entirely.

Is a little doll/ key ring/ jar of jam with a blacked out face on it such a precious value in this country??

Are you honestly really that bothered to get all nationalistic and defensive over a poxt little character?

All an excuse to kick up a fuss and hark back the good old days of 'harmless' racism IMO.

So what they want to ban it? Hardy banning fried breakfasts is it.

Conversely if it's only a harmless doll then why so folk get so upset and hypersensitive about it?

It's not exactly a symbol of oppression and racial hate. Nobody grew up thinking "eat marmalade - become a nazi"

Shit like this gives ammo to the Luddites who still want to buy nigger brown paint and have a slave in the back yard, and feeds the appetite of bedweting liberals who think the world is made of cotton wool and fluffy bunny rabbits.

Live and let live. If someone is really upset about a smiling doll it says more to me about them than the doll itself.

It's amazing how protective people get over their right to have a racist keyring.

That's my point Smiffs, it never did any harm when I was a child, why is it now? I suppose it starts off another government office and department in every council for people.

Can a key-ring be racist?

Also I think it was CWP who said (tongue in cheek i think) about folk being dragged over here kicking and screaming a while back - they weren't kicking cos the chains were way too tight!

Seriously though,  this my ancestors thing does get on my tats.  My ancestors were enslaved, fact!  I'm sure everyone could latch onto an historical injustice and feel aggrieved by it if they so wished

Surely we are better acknowledging superficial differences (i.e. skin stone, culture etc) whilst knowing we are all human at the end o't day?!

I personally think that, if done in the 'right' way, humor is a good way to overcome such differences/tensions and move on

Getting all precious serves no purpose other than to highlight the differences in a negative way and reinforce racial/cultural barriers, rather than embrace them.  That's my take anyways.  What would I know though . . . i'm white

I'm 6ft and 19 stone, folk can call me a fat cunt but I wont take offence.

Do people want to own weird little toys which represent your enslaved ancestors though?

I've got leeks and lentils in the kitchen too but not planning on becoming a far left extremist smashing up my local starbucks either

he wants a real one

Back to the original story, A few years back I got disciplined at work, and all because I used to keep a harmless bunny rabbit toy on my desk - anyhow, one day, due to some mix up, it ended up sitting on the desk of a black colleague whom I was, at the time, having a series of disputes with...

Some folk are so fucking PC these days, what was the problem I ask you?

I doubt it now, but I wouldn't really care if they did - is a key-ring or doll really that offensive?  I just find it a bit sad that people can get so hung up about such things.

Should Uncle Ben's be forced to change their logo too?

I've said this before; I'm quite proud of how tolerant and open minded the majority of our society is.

Uncle Ben is f*ck all to do with minstrelsy though...

I'm sure the writer who invented the character didn't mean any harm, as I'm sure the writers of minstrel skits, 'coon songs' and the like probably weren't rabid racists...

This was a time when it was deemed appropriate for the ringside band to strike up with a ditty called 'All Coons Look Alike to Me' when Jack Johnson (a black champion for those who haven't heard of him) fought Jim Jeffries.

Times change, it's no big f*cking cultural loss to the 'white race' not to have dolls, keyrings and jam jars based on golliwoggs.
