SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 "The 442 system has no place in the modern game. Its defunct. " - Douglas Freedman. Thank fuck he changed his mind. Thing is... we're not really playing a tradition 4-4-2. As someone above said, it's more of a diamond in midfield with the forward three of that floating between positions. FWIW I agree that a traditional, ie. flat, 4-4-2 wouldn't work. Quote
Casino Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 homo, i dunno what it is, but it isn't 4 4 fcuking 2 in the way its understood Quote

Casino Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 i thought allardyce didn't get the england gig Quote
oggybwfc Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The grief Coyle used to get on here for not wavering on playing 442. I really think it's more to do with personnel rather than systems. When we had Holden and Muamba in midfield everything was rosey. Quote
Pie Eater Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I think one of the biggest changes with going 2 up top has been moving Medo and Spearing from defensive mid to just central mid. They seem to be getting in each other's way a lot less. I was one of those who thought they couldn't play together but it seems it just needed a change of system Quote
jayjay Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Not a traditional 442. But 442 all the same, can we all agree on that. I refer to Freedmans quote about said formation. Hes tossed the season away being stubborn. Hes seen the light and long may it continue. 442! Quote
Casino Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) you can refer to whatever you want this is not 'traditional 442' in fact, it changes throughout if hed played 442 with ngog and an other up top with eagles and lee wide we may have been even lower than we are now nobody knows but only freedman has to make the decisions Edited March 9, 2014 by Casino Quote

We can all speculate. What is certain is that we have been shocking playing his Italian style all season and since he changed things we've picked up massively. Quote
marple whites Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 What a great day out. Always a bit reluctant with ticket costs, but by god, it was money well spent. And a Leeds fan (in my missus) picked me, gumbo and junior marple up from stockport station. Great booze up, great win, great away following, all in all GREAT. God I love football. Quote

I wonder, and I might be wrong I don't know, but I wonder if Dougie has played shit tactics ON PURPOSE to unsettle the big earners to piss them off so he can get them off the wage bill faster? Quote

onlyoneawalker Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I've seen us have more one on ones with the keeper in the last 3 games than we've had in 3 years - mason has a canny knack of finding space and the pace to get on goal Quote
Nowack Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Still say we should have signed Butland on loan. No ambition. Quote

I think it was more a case of putting them in the "Shop Window" Luckily Ngog got 2 in 2 so he was off. Eagles and too a lesser extent Chungy have not seen the light of day since the window shut. DazBob Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I've seen us have more one on ones with the keeper in the last 3 games than we've had in 3 years - mason has a canny knack of finding space and the pace to get on goal That's a great point. Whether it's down to Mason or the system we're now playing, one-on-ones seem to be coming thick and fast, yet this hasn't been the case for years. I'm liking it. 11 goals in 3 games and only one conceded. I never saw this coming in a million years. IMO it's too late for us to sneak into the play-offs, but hopefully this season has taught Freedman some invaluable lessons and we'll be all the better for it next season. I'm just hoping that should we start next season without the likes of Juke, Mason and co that we're not having the same old arguments next season and the defenders of Freedman blaming the presonnel available. Freedman has got to get the balance of the squad right over the summer. No excuses this time please. Edited March 10, 2014 by DazBob Quote

I know what you're saying but this for me proves Dougie knows exactly what he's doing but he just needs the time to implement it. I do believe we are pretty close to him having the team/squad he wants. Although he's been slated for it, I really like the fact he knows his targets and he waits for them. Quote
oggybwfc Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Like Freedman, or not you cannot argue the fact he can spot something in a player others miss. When we got Danns, All we heard was "journeyman,no skill not good enough" The "Juke" it was "FFS we get rid of Cravies and sign a player who has scored 1 in 20 Mason he is a "Stump" The problem now, Danns aside, other managers can see what they can do and we will be priced out of the market.. I'd love nothing more than for Freedman to prove yours and Casino's unwavering faith in him has been completely justified. I've never been one for having an agenda, one way or another, just for the sake of me being able to say, "I told you so." I've had serious doubts about Freedman this season, however I'll be absolutely delighted if he carries on ramming my doubts back down my throat. Quote

That's where I'm at really We should all be chuffed for now and if this carries on into next season I'm more than happy to see DF at the helm, but this time he needs to carry it into next season However, IMO 1) this momentum goes and we start being shocking again (I can't see it like) 2) we start next season like we did this Then he should be removed Back to Mason, his movement is very, very intelligent and the way we're playing with the ball now makes the most of that....it's brilliant to see Quote
