Ani Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Thing is we might sign Juke, but we won't get mason as Cardiff are unlikely to let him go, without a decent sized fee. Could beckford do the same job ? Quote
Casino Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 well masons going back soon, so we'll get to find out unless a few more good results allow him to try one of the young pups Quote
Danny G Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 No need for wingers in the modern game, pack the midfield and have a couple of busy fullbacks to provide the width Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Ended up drinking in Ripponden after the game went in Brownys old pub the fleece, just been re-furbed at a cost of 1.2 mill very nice, then on into the centre of Ripponden lots of good bars with a good vibe. Never been to Ripponden before very nice well heeled place. Quote
Pie Eater Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I'd love nothing more than for Freedman to prove yours and Casino's unwavering faith in him has been completely justified. I've never been one for having an agenda, one way or another, just for the sake of me being able to say, "I told you so." I've had serious doubts about Freedman this season, however I'll be absolutely delighted if he carries on ramming my doubts back down my throat. This. Although success based on loan players seems worryingly reminiscent of last year where we finished on an absolute flyer before the players responsible (Spearing aside) returned to their parent clubs and it took us 6 months to get back into the groove Quote
Ani Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 I think so Maybe not quite as well but I think the way we play will suit him in a similar manner I have high hopes for this The exciting thing is that we have beaten three teams who are/were talking about the play offs. The midfield 4 are looking like different players and as mentioned the system gives them some freedom but also responsibility to cover. The Juke has been superb, the ball he puts in for the fourth goal is top drawer. We are starting to see a gap to the bottom teams, Tuesday is a big test against a Derby team who have to win to have chance of staying near top two, then Saturday Brighton are similar to the teams we just beat, three or four points from those two games would show real progress. EyesRight Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 This. Although success based on loan players seems worryingly reminiscent of last year where we finished on an absolute flyer before the players responsible (Spearing aside) returned to their parent clubs and it took us 6 months to get back into the groove I agree with this but to balance the argument you could say he's not had funds to bring in who he wants and has had square pegs in round holes for the majority of the season. With a bit more money available next year with higher earners being offloaded he may be able to bring in who he wants for a full season. Which I think is what Garrp and Casino have been saying all year. Although I do think we should have achieved much more with what we already had. Quote
Pie Eater Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Are we not getting a transfer embargo this summer then? Not sure if it's this summer or next but, given our finances, it's an issue of when rather than if we get one Quote

Not sure if it's this summer or next but, given our finances, it's an issue of when rather than if we get one In which case, it's a good job we're trying to keep hold of experienced players like Knight, isn't it? If we can't afford to replace them or we're not allowed to, then we have to keep them. Quote

Just pointing out that high earners leaving doesn't necessarily mean we'll be able to use the extra cash freed up to sign new players Quote

Pie Eater Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Won't that depend on next set of losses ? I dunno, I had it in my head that next season's losses would decide it but there's talk of Leicester/QPR getting massive FFP fines if promoted so I assume it kicks in this year? Quote

ZiggyStardust Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Talkshite yesterday the reporter said we were playing 442 with Juke playing up top with Medo. laswt week SSN said our only change from the previous week was Medo replacing Mohamed Kamara. Quote

Zico Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I do believe we are pretty close to him having the team/squad he wants. my concern at the moment is that 3 of them are on loan the back 5 are fine and going nowhere, even if knight does one, mills can come back in but a big part of this run is 2 on loan strikers and an on loan midfielder all playing well presume we can get Danns next season as he's out of contract, so long as he's not looking for the same wages he was on at leicester so long as boro aren't twats about it or decide they want to keep him - what, £1.5M? Mason - dunno what crack is with him, he's got 2 years left, though weren't Bournemouth sniffing around for £1.5M last window? might suggest he's available but may also depend if cardiff stay up or not few ifs and buts, and we'd probably have to shift Sordell on and sell someone like Lee to fund it - so be interesting to see how close to the squad he is come August because a lot of out it might be out of our hands... Casino Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 don't forget the power of the players in all this they generally get what they want Quote
MalcolmW Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I would expect Beckford to take on Mason's place when the loan expires. And Iliev to get a chance if Beckford isn't fit. Not for nothing did DF give him aqn 18 month contract in January. And the losses? I'm with Cas, ED has shunted everything possible into the last accounts, so that this season's can be clean(ish). oggybwfc Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 don't forget the power of the players in all this they generally get what they want I know you said this when i first broached the subject, But if Boro say we want Xmillion and we can't afford it then there is nothing the Juke can do or say too affect it. Quote
Garrp Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 We won't need to pay more than a million for Lukas imo. We want Danny Graham scoring for Boro. got his first 2 at weekend, so hopefully he starts scoring. they need the juke money form us to buy him. Quote
Casino Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 but if grahams scoring they can't afford him, silly Quote
