When I used to work in Leigh, I often spoke to our IT chap who was a Leigh supporter (yes, I know.....IT in Leigh, who'd have thunk it) - anyway, he was obsessed with the "fact" that the "establishment" (who ever they are) didn't want Leigh in the top league, and actively changed the rules to prevent them from entering. He really was quite bitter about it.

 

He does also think that every football fan and "the press" really hate Bolton Wanderers as well, and he always got very upset when I told him that most people and "the press" really don't give a fuck about Bolton, in anyway shape or form.

 

I think he just had a massive chip on his shoulder about everything.

 

My favourite was him complaining that London gets absolutely everything and the North gets nothing at all, he reckoned he'd heard that over 75% of investment in any infrastructure building or grants went directly to London projects, his prime examples were the Wembley rebuild and the 2012 Olympics going to London, when in fact they would have been better for the country if they had been in Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds  (by the way....London to him was anything south of Coventry)

When the head honcho at the RFL was a tennis bloke called Richard Lewis he brought in frandchises for super league clubs which meant he got to decide who got in and who didn't. He fucked Widnes and leigh over by bringing in a team of aussies on dodgy student visas playing for a new team in South Wales and spunked fuckloads on London and Toulouse. The welsh were shit, the border agency asked why pro rugby players were on student visas, toulouse got spanked by English pub teams, London moved from ground to ground with their 400 fans and the whole thing went to ratshit as you couldn't get a franchise unless someone went bust or Richard Lewis fucked off. After that farce he duly fucked off back to tennis or sommat else.

 

Sky saw their arse and insisted on promotion and relegation hence the new middle 8s Competition. The rfl will tell ypunit was thier concept but it was sky. 100%.

 

Since then Leighs crowds have more than doubled we've got team capable of getting there in a new stadium.

 

Big E doesn't like it coz widnes are shit and not good enough to play in the top 8 with the big boys.

Leeds ran from 5th spot to win the grand final last year which was entertaining. Can't have the league leaders not playing for 8 weeks waiting game for the final. They'd look like union players by the time they came to play it.

Was that after the season when Wigan were in serious danger of going down so they changed it so as not to lose any 'big' teams?

So....in Super League, is it of little or no consequence if a team finishes 1st or 8th........it's only whoever wins that knock out that becomes champions?  -  if so, surely that's just bollocks
